Challenge Case benefits
A leaking gas lift valve (GLV) dummy in a mature oil — Clear identification of an expected producer had been damaged during a replacement leak and 3 further leaks operation. This had given rise to abnormally high annulus — Confidently specified, rapid remediation pressure due to communication between the tubing and — Reduced unproductive well downtime and the A-annulus. The well was scheduled to be converted to a significant cost savings gas injector. Key capabilities — Fast, highly accurate location of Before remediation was attempted, the operator needed single or multiple leaks to undertake a comprehensive leak detection survey to — Locates leaks through tubing in determine whether the problem mandrel was the only A, B, & C annuli source of the raised pressure. — Sensitive to a wide range of leak rates: 0.02 to >5,000 l/min. — Clear, unambiguous log response -100 Cable velocity (m/min) 100 Depth 0 LeakA 150000 — Proven effectiveness. Clearly identified leak at ball valve.
Case study: LeakPoint Solution Typical applications A LeakPoint survey was carried out in memory mode to — Locating leaks in tubing, casing and completion components confirm the location of the leak or leaks. In order to enable — Pre-workover diagnostics diagnosis and remediation in the same campaign, the — Post-remediation validation operator mobilised a dual slickline/electric line unit. — Pre-abandonment survey The unit included gas lift valve replacement capability and, as a contingency, settable straddles in case the leak was not related to the gas lift system.
Results The damaged GLV dummy was confirmed as a leak source and 3 further leaks located: in a control line, a big bore ball valve and a second GLV dummy.
The mandrels containing the failed GLV dummies were both
sealed using straddle patches.
The LeakPoint survey accurately identified the source
of pressure build up in the annulus. In addition, knowledge of the existence and precise location of 3 further integrity failures enabled efficient, targeted remediation, rapidly restoring well fitness and minimising the risk of further interventions.
