COMSOL 3.

5 PC/Windows Installation Instructions

===============================================
For details see the section "Installing COMSOL on Windows" in the
printed Installation and Operations Guide for COMSOL 3.5 or in the
file install.pdf on this CD/DVD. Find brief instructions below.

Before You Begin

----------------
Check that your system meets the system requirements.
Make sure you have a passcode or a license file ready.

Installing COMSOL
-----------------
Insert CD 1 or the DVD into the CD-ROM drive. The Introduction window
should appear automatically; if not, run the file setup.exe on the
CD/DVD.

Follow the instructions in the installation program.

Some COMSOL license types require that you also install a license
manager before running a COMSOL software product. If you install
COMSOL software with a passcode, no license manager is needed. If you
install it with a license file, you need to install the license
manager if the license file contains a line starting with the word
SERVER. Please see the section "License Manager Installation" in the
Installation and Operations Guide.

Running COMSOL
--------------
* Running standalone COMSOL Multiphysics: Click the "COMSOL
Multiphysics 3.5" shortcut on the desktop or choose the "COMSOL
Multiphysics 3.5" item on the Windows Start menu in the
"COMSOL 3.5" folder.

* Running COMSOL Script: Click the "COMSOL Script 1.3" shortcut on

the desktop or choose the "COMSOL Script 1.3" item on the Windows
Start menu in the "COMSOL 3.5" folder.

* Running COMSOL Reaction Engineering Lab: Click the "COMSOL Reaction

Engineering Lab 1.5" shortcut on the desktop or choose the "COMSOL
Reaction Engineering Lab 1.5" item on the Windows Start menu in the
"COMSOL 3.5" folder.

* Running COMSOL Multiphysics with MATLAB: Click the "COMSOL 3.5 with
MATLAB" shortcut on the desktop or choose the "COMSOL 3.5 with MATLAB"
item on the Windows Start menu in the COMSOL 3.5 folder.

COMSOL 3.5 Mac OS X Installation Instructions

=============================================
For details see the section "Installing COMSOL on Mac OS X" in the
printed Installation and Operations Guide for COMSOL 3.5 or in the
file install.pdf on this CD/DVD. Find brief instructions below.

Before You Begin

----------------
Check that your system meets the system requirements.
Make sure you have a passcode or a license file ready.

Installing COMSOL
-----------------
Insert CD 1 or the DVD into the CD-ROM drive and launch the "COMSOL
Installer" application. The Introduction window should now appear.
Follow the instructions in the installation application.

--------------
* Running standalone COMSOL Multiphysics : Launch the "COMSOL
Multiphysics" application in the comsol35 folder.

* Running COMSOL Script: Launch the "COMSOL Script" application in the

comsol35 folder.

* Running COMSOL Reaction Engineering Lab: Launch the "COMSOL Reaction

Engineering Lab" application in the comsol35 folder.

* Running COMSOL Multiphysics with MATLAB: Launch the "COMSOL with

MATLAB" application. This application first launches MATLAB and then
launches the COMSOL Multiphysics graphical user interface.

COMSOL 3.5 UNIX/Linux Installation Instructions

===============================================
For details see the section "Installing COMSOL on UNIX/Linux" in the
COMSOL Installation and Operations Guide or in the file install.pdf on
this CD/DVD. Find brief instructions below.

Before You Begin

----------------
Check that your system meets the system requirements.
Make sure you have a license file ready.

Mounting the CD/DVD

-------------------
Mount the COMSOL installation CD/DVD using the Rockridge extensions
to the ISO9660 format. This works automatically with the standard
mount command on Linux and Solaris.

Starting the Installation Program

---------------------------------
The installation program is an X-Windows application, and thus needs
access to an X-Windows display. Make sure that your DISPLAY variable
is set up correctly and that you have access to your X-Windows
display. Try the command xclock to test that your X-Windows display
is working properly. To install COMSOL in a system directory such as
/usr/local you need to run the installation program as the root user.

To start the installation, type the following command

sh /mnt/cdrom/setup

where /mnt/cdrom is the mount point of the CD-ROM drive.

Installing COMSOL
-----------------
Follow the instructions in the installation program.

The license manager must be installed and started before running a

COMSOL software product with the exception of trial licenses, which do
not require a license manager. See the section "License Manager
Installation" in the COMSOL Installation and Operations Guide for
details. You can install your COMSOL software products and the license
manager in any order.

Running COMSOL
--------------
In the bin directory under the installation directory comsol35, the
command comsol is present. You should include this directory in your
UNIX/Linux path.

To start standalone COMSOL Multiphysics: Run the comsol command

without arguments.

To start COMSOL Script: Run the command "comsol script".

To start COMSOL Reaction Engineering Lab: Run the command

"comsol reaction".

To start COMSOL Multiphysics with MATLAB: Run the comsol command with
the argument matlab: "comsol matlab".

The script comsol will create the files classpath.txt and java.opts
that MATLAB uses. This file is created in your current directory. You
must therefore have write access to your current directory when
starting MATLAB using the comsol command.
