Short Story

I. objectives:
At the end of the discussion the students are expected to:
- have formulated a logical way in a certain given problem
-have discern the abilities of a man in producing wise solution in a problem
-to have integrated the learned abilities of a man

II. Objective:
“Pilandok and the Crocodiles”
by Victoria and Añonuevo

One morning, Pilandok was aked by his mother to picked some mangoes. He
needs to cross a river to reach Mabunga where mangoes are abundant. Unfortunately the
bridge in that river was broken and the only way now is to cross the river with many
crocodiles. Pilandok spoke to the leader of the crocodiles if he could pass to the river. “NO”
roared the alpha crocodile. We eat anyone who passes here in the river. The crocodiles
seemed to be hungry. Pilandok thought of a wise way. “May I Count all of you?” said Pilandok
to the crocodiles. Then he step on the back of the crocodiles as he count them until he
reached on the other side. Pilandok went straight to the mango trees and harvested plenty of
them. Meanwhile, the crocodiles have noticed that they have been tricked by Pilandok so now
thay are patiently waiting of Pilandok to come back. After a while, Pilandok came back with
his mangoes. He told the crocodiles that he will give them some his mangoes. “We want your
liver” , replied by the alpha crocodile. “But I have left my liver in our house, can you let me
passed first and then I will get my liver and give it to you”. The crocodile agreed to this and
they let Pilandok to cross the river by stepping again on their back. Pilandok acted that he had
come back from his home. “This is my liver catch this”, said Pilandok to the crocodile. The
crocodile quickly open his mouth and caught on his mouth a piece of wood that struck his
mouth. Pilandok fooled the crocodile that it was his liver but it was actualy a piece of wood.
The crocodile cannot shot his mouth as the piece of wood have struck his mouth. Pilandok
then came home with his mangoes.

III. ACTIVITIES

a. Pre-reading

Procedure:
a. The teacher will post a question.
Q: What will you do if you need to cross a river which has many crocodiles
waiting for its pray? (Think of a unique or wise ways to successfully cross the river.)
b. Some of the students will be called to state their answers.
During Reading:
Procedure:
a. the students will read the story out loud and should pause to the part in which Pilandok
thinks or does a wise way to cross the river.
b. the students will fill up the graphic organizer.

Ways or strategies of infer base on Pilandok’s ways or
Pilandok strategies? (Highlight the abilities of a
man that is unique among other species
in the world)

Post Reading:
Procedure:
a. the teacher will group the class into 5.
b. the student re will be instructed to choose among the members of the group which has
the best strategies or ways in crossing the river full of crocodiles.
c. the student will be instructed to dramatize or perform the chosen strategies or ways.
