Job Title: Health, Safety and Environmental

Graduate Trainee

Reports to: Group Health and Safety Director

To provide an additional health, safety and environmental

resource that would, in particular, enable the Group Health and
Safety Director to focus on strategic issues and explore
techniques of cost saving health, safety and environmental
management by agreeing appropriate project topics with the
Main Purpose of Job Graduate Trainee.

Provide support for the existing Health, Safety and Environmental

Advisor and Health, Safety and Environmental Managers.

The Graduate Trainee will work to improve their knowledge and

skills in order to generate, promote and maintain a positive
health, safety and environmental culture.

Other tasks would involve:

 carrying out risk assessments and considering how risks could

be cost effectively reduced
 carrying out regular site visits to advise on and check health,
safety and environmental conformity with Company standards
 leading in-house training with managers and employees
 keeping records of inspections and producing specialist reports
Principal Duties or
Responsibilities  keeping records of incidents and producing statistics for
managers
 maintaining the health, safety and environmental section of
the Company website called ‘Grapevine’
 keeping up to date with new legislation and maintaining a
working knowledge of all health, safety and environmental
legislation and any technologies that affect the Company’s
operations and undertakings
 assisting with the periodic review and update of Company
health, safety and environmental procedures and standards,
 assisting in ensuring that compliance with all relevant
legislation and company standards are met

 Sanctus Ltd – NVQ provider
 Enfield Ltd – Safety equipment and sign supplier.

Financial
Level of authority will be as outlined in the Group Authority
Manual (GAM). The GAM is available on the company intranet
(Grapevine) or through the Group Financial Controller.
 Eligible for Chartered status in the Institution of
Occupational Safety and Health.
 Eligible for Associate status in the Institute of Environmental
Management and Assessment
 Literate, numerate and with IT skills.
 Excellent communication, motivational, persuasion and
interpersonal skills.
 Ability to work well within a team.
 Be able to work to deadlines.
 Be able to work on one’s own initiative.
 Able to act in a fair, firm, polite and businesslike manner.
 Hold a valid driving licence.
 Able and willing to meet the travel requirements.
 Able and willing to learn new skills.
