to another school year at PVMS! This year
ELECTIVES
we have exciting changes in our schedule
to offer students more options to explore
and discover potential interests while also
addressing personalized attention to
students’ needs through our brand new
W.I.N class.
To begin, we have added two types of
exploratory classes being offered to our
students: Electives and Encores. Electives
ENCORE CLASSES
are classes outside the required
curriculum that provide students with an
opportunity to discover and display their
talents. Encore classes are an extension
of regular classes that allow for students
interact with the material through Project-
Based Learning and a hands-on approach
that applies skills learned from core
classes.

● 6th Grade → Gym, Band, and Art
● 7th & 8th Grades → Band, Health, Gym, Multimedia, and Art

• Divide and Conquer: Learn about area and perimeter by designing water parks, zoos, etc.
• A-Z of ELA: Guidance on how to increase reading and writing proficiency in real-world situations
• Robotics: Engineer strategies will be used to make lego structures
● 6th Grade
• Home Team: Life skills class for students to know basics of home economics
• How Things Work: Testing theories and hypothesis of personal interests
• Reading Film: Making connections between literature and film
● 7th Grade
• Social Media: Learning about internet responsibility, digital footprint, and cyberbullying
• STEM: Using math to solve and design real-world solutions to problems
• PVMS Press: Creating a school newspaper to cultivate research practices and writing components
• Around the World: Highlights of international countries to increase global awareness
● 8th Grade
• Smarter Not Harder: A study skills class to help develop strategies for studying
• Leadership: Mentoring opportunities and decision-making to maintain school spirit at PVMS
• Careers: Explore different career options in preparation for high school
• Broadcasting: Learn about public speaking as students produce video announcements
