Assign IP Address to NEC Storage Disk Array

To configure your NEC Storage disk array to your specific network environment, a static IP address needs to be assigned to the disk array for your local subnet. A maintenance PC installed with Internet Explorer is used in the following step of your custom configuration. The maintenance PC is connected via a crossover cable to the Ethernet port marked MNT on the controller of the NEC Storage Disk Array.

1. Power on the NEC Storage disk array unit following the steps below:

Turn on the power switches of each disk enclosure unit (DE), proceeding from the highest ENC ID# to the lowest.

Turn on the power switches of disk array controller (DAC).

Note

If the disk enclosure units and the disk array controller are hooked to a common power

strip, they may be turned on simultaneously.

Check the following:

Hard disk drives (HDDs) start up and READY LED of each installed HDD goes on.

Flashing SERVICE LED on the front of the DAC goes off.

POWER LED is on.

SVP/DIR LED on the rear of the DAC is flashing.

2. Once the status above is confirmed, the unit is ready. Follow the procedure below for the initial setting of the disk array.

Note

Details about the NEC Storage Navigation and Maintenance PC are described in your

NEC Storage S series Disk Array Unit User's Guide. These settings have been configured in the factory for your NEC Storage S series SAN.

3. To connect a maintenance PC to NEC Storage disk array requires a 10/100Base Ethernet port with Internet Explorer Version 5.0 or higher.

4. Connect the maintenance PC LAN to the NEC Storage disk array maintenance port (MNT) using a crossover cable. The maintenance port IP address is fixed for both controllers of the disk array controller, so connection to the maintenance port via a hub is not recommended.

Note

The fixed IP address for controller #0 is 10.1.0.10 and for controller #1 is 10.1.0.11.

5. Set the maintenance PC IP address to 10.1.0.xxx subnet 255.255.255.0 (xxx should be set to 1–254 decimal value; however 10.1.0.10 and 10.1.0.11 can not be used, since they are reserved for the controllers.)

Use Internet protocol (TCP/IP). Remove proxy server setting if set.

Note

Because the IP addresses of the MNT’s Ethernet port is fixed, do not connect the port

to any LAN and WAN.

Note

When the amber LED to the right of the Ethernet port is illuminated it indicates TCP

connection state. This does not indicate an error state.

6. For connection to CONT0 (lower controller board), enter 10.1.0.10 in the address field after the browser is started. Enter 10.1.0.11 for connection to CONT1.

browser is started. Enter 10.1.0.11 for connection to CONT1. Note If the maintenance PC does not

Note

If the maintenance PC does not connect, check the following items:

Confirm the correct IP Address is set on the PC. Check that proxy server is not set in Internet Explorer.

Note

The maintenance PC may not work normally if the setting for temporary internet files is

not set to Automatic for the "check for newer versions of stored pages" option in the Internet

Options menu.

7. After NEC Storage Navigation starts, select [Option] at the lower left corner of the screen, then enter DE (in uppercase) on the Password Input screen. Click on the SET button.

8. Update the screen by using the Refresh feature or the F5 key of the browser. All the features on the left side of the screen become available.
