Definition of terms:

The following words are clearly defined:


Reproductive health- Reproductive health implies that people are able to have a responsible,
satisfying and safer sex life and that they have the capability to reproduce and the freedom to decide
if, when and how often to do so

Birth control- Refers to contraception and fertility control is a method or device used to prevent
pregnancy.

Sex education- is instruction on issues relating to human sexuality, including emotional relations and
responsibilities, human sexual anatomy, sexual activity, sexual reproduction, age of consent,
reproductive health, reproductive rights, safe sex, birth control and sexual abstinence.

Maternal health- is the health of women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.

Church beliefs- The Catholic Church believes that artificial contraception is sinful and immoral and may
frustrate a divine plan to bring a new life into the world. Instead of using birth control methods such as
the pill, IUDs, diaphragms, and condoms, Catholics can use Natural Family Planning (NFP) techniques.

Condom- is a sheath-shaped barrier device used during sexual intercourse to reduce the probability of
pregnancy or a sexually transmitted infection (STIs).

Family planning- simply put, is the practice of controlling the number of children in a family and the
intervals between their births, particularly by means of artificial contraception or voluntary sterilization

Adolescence-(from Latin adolescere, meaning "to grow up")is a transitional stage of physical and
psychological development that generally occurs during the period from puberty to legal adulthood
(age of majority).
