Surface Mount Season / Matrix Reloaded Loader PCB

PCB BUY ? : Available from this site.

The Interface below can do 2 main things:

1.) Act as a smart card emulator, in other words your PC application becomes the smart card and the interface relays the
information back to the receiver.
This is the same function as the Season/Logger that you can make on these pages.

2.)The MR CAM Loader will allow you to re-program your Matrix Reloaded Cam with the latest updates such as MR1.x. This is
the same function as the MR Loader Board that you can make on these pages.

As you can see most of it is surface mount. If you do not want to have a go at surface mount chips then you can always
purchase a season Logger Board or a MR Loader Board seperate as these use standard components.

But if you are feeling adventurous, you will be surprised at how easy and how cheap surface mount components can
be.
Just get some SMD solder paste and with a tooth pic dab a little on all the pads. Then get some tweezers and place the
components gently onto the board. Now stick your Gas oven on to Mark 9 and let it heat up!!!
When it has got hot now simply slide the PCB gently in on the middle shelf, crouch down and watch you board through
the window of your oven!!! now sit and wait.
It takes 5 to 10 minutes but suddenly the solder paste will flare and dissolve into nice runny solder. At this point open
the oven door and slide the tray out, give the tray a tap and the components will self center. Check that all paste has
done it's job, if not slide it back in and leave for a few more minutes.
May sound MAD!!! but it does work...
If you have put too much paste on then simply use copper braid in conjunction with your soldering iron and clean off
excessive solder.

Data and control is via the 9 Pin Serial socket onboard.

This will require a 9 pin serial lead with Pins wired one-one. In other words Pin1 goes to Pin1, Pin2
goes to Pin2 etc etc. The Lead should be Male to Female. (NOT Null Modem).

The 4 Way Dip switch is for choosing what mode you want the interface to work in.

With switches 1 and 2 ON and 3 and 4 OFF you are in Loader Mode.
With switches 3 and 4 ON and 1 and 2 OFF you are in season mode.

This switch simply controls whether Power will be used from the receiver to power the interface or from a External source.
Slide the switch to the left for External power and connect your power via the DC socket. Or switch it to the Right and use
the receivers power.

This is the DC 2.1mm socket for Using external Power.

You can use power between 5-15 Volts but it must be DC and must be center pole is positive.

These are the two status LED,s.

The Green LED shows you that the circuit is powered and the Red LED will flash as data goes back and forth..

Components:
You will need the following:
The component list numbers are from http://www.rswww.com U will probably find
them cheaper if you scout around.

You will need the following:

If you do not want to use a external power supply then you can save a few pennies and will only need to
populate the PCB with the Components below.
Make sure you put a link from the middle pin to the right hand pin if not using the switch.

LED Green= SMD Green LED RS Part number:171-3454

LED Red= SMD Red LED RS Part number:171-3432
R1= SMD 1K resistor RS Part number:347-9910
R2= SMD 1K resistor RS Part number:347-9910
C6,C5,C4,C3,C2,C1= 0.1uf SMD Capacitors RS Part number: 264-4450
Dip1= 4 Way Dip Switch RS Part number:103-0759
IC2= SMD 7407 hex buffer RS Part number:177-6253
IC1= SMD Max232 CWE RS Part number:370-848
Socket1= 9 Pin Female D Socket = RS Part Number: 457-484

If you want to be able to power it externally as well, then add these extra bits:

DC1= DC Socket RS Part number: 486-662

D1= SMD 1n4001 Diode RS Part number:269-394
SL1= 2 way miniature slide switch RS Part number:204-7871
Reg1= SMD 5 Volt 800MA Regulator RS Part number:215-9390
