1. INTRODUCTION
[NOTE on the INTERNAL vs EXTERNAL Version of PEI

This document captures both Internal and External version of the PEI for a given
UTRAN release.
The content of the external version has to be approved by PLM, R&D and W-CDMA
Network Engineering teams, while the internal text (written in Italic Dark Blue) has not
been approved, since it describes the Engineering comprehension of the features, or
internal information that should not be communicated to customers (Internal
references, restrictions, CRs…).]

1.1. OBJECT
This user guide is a repository of engineering guidelines related to UMTS Remote
Radio Head (RRH) solution.

This document aims at :

- Providing reader with a list of pointers to reference documents on some of product

specific aspects where Engineering inputs, margins and actions are limited.

- Consolidating some information from miscellaneous sources and across several

releases if needed to provide with a good vision on RRH products context and/or
requirements.

- Being a repository of Engineering Guidelines for UMTS RRH in relation with

platform, system as well as some functional aspects to help in taking best of its
capabilities within customer contexts and to ease avoidance of quite impacting re-
engineering.

Warning: this document only deal with R99 aspects. HSDPA and E-DCH related
items are covered into dedicated HSxPA Engineering Guide [Ext_ENG_04]

As the range of applicable engineering rules is very large, the content of this
document is subject to changes without notifications.

3.2.1 34470 - SUPPORT OF 6 RRHS PER DNODEB (UA06.0)

This feature makes possible to support up to 6 RRHs from a 9326 d2U v2. The
supported configurations are up to 6 sectors (including 4 and 5 sectors), up to 2
carriers. Mobility between sectors is realized using Soft or Softer Hand-Over
mechanisms.

Each fiber link drives only one RRH, so that one digital NodeB can manage up to 6
fibers and up to 6 RRHs; maximum number of cells = 12 cells
RRHs are supported from xCCM-U (d2U v2 ph2).

3.2.2 73694 - DUAL-BAND ON DISTRIBUTED NODEB (UA06.0)

The feature 73694 introduced in UA06.0 makes possible to support dual band
configuration on distributed Node B solutions based on 9341 RRH (CPRI based)
family and 9326 d2U v2 ph2, equipped with xCCM-U, in which each cluster of 3
sectors is affected to a frequency band.

The supported dual-band solutions are:

• 9326 d2U v2+ RRH 850MHz + RRH 2100MHz

• 9326 d2U v2 + RRH 850MHz + RRH 1900MHz

• 9326 d2U v2 + RRH 850MHz + RRH AWS

• 9326 d2U v2 + RRH 2100MHz + RRH 900MHz (SW readiness)

The supported dual-band configurations are up to 3 sectors per band and up to 2

carriers per band (12 cells maximum). The limitation is
Sector * carriers <= 12.

3.2.4 76405 - TMA SUPPORT FROM RRH THROUGH AISG-LITE

(UA06.0)
This feature provides support of AISG messaging to and from the TMAs; any AISG
alarm messages are detected, collated and reported using the traditional Node B
current window alarm OAM message, and are forwarded to the WMS to be dealt with.

Support of AISG RET and additional functions such as software download are not
included in this feature. The functionality included in this feature will be complemented
by future more comprehensive AISG features.

This feature provides support of Alcatel-Lucent’s NTUM32CM AISG TMAs without the
need for an additional AISG CCU, and without the need for provision of SiteLAN back
to the management centre. It is also an interim step towards full support of AISG for
both TMAs and RETA

RESTRICTIONS/LIMITATIONS

This feature is only supported in AISG v1.1, with TMA AISG 2100 and RRH 40/60W

6.4.1 DOWNLINK POWER CONFIGURATION

The aim of this chapter is to provide a high-level description of the mechanism and
parameters (either calculated internally the Node B or provided by OMC-B) related to
downlink power configuration of Node B; more precisely to properly provision the
parameter called maxTxPower at the OMC.

The principles for downlink power configuration and management are similar between
local and remote cells. The description is given in document [Ext_ENG_02] "UPUG
UTRAN Parameters User Guide".

All powers are nominal (i.e not peak). Planning on typical value is recommended.

6.5.5 RESTRICTION: RRH20-21 CONNECTED ON XCCM-U (D2U

V2)
CPRI Interface CPRI/HSSL compatible

xCCM-U

Optical output
1 2 3 4 5 6

To RRH20W - 3
To RRH20W - 2
To RRH20W - 1
To connect an RRH20W, which only support HSSL interface, on the xCCM-U, the
following interfaces of the xCCM-U are used:

• optical output port 4 to RRH 20W number 1

• optical output port 5 to RRH 20W number 2

• optical output port 6 to RRH 20W number 3

In UA05, the values of RRH antennaConnection supported by the OMC are only
antennaConnection _11, antennaConnection _21 and antennaConnection _31,
corresponding respectively to optical port 1, 2 and 3. The values 41, 51 and 61 are not
supported in this release.

CR7445 has identified an issue with the RRH20-21 connected on xCCM-U and a
workaround has been found to rename inside the BTS the antennaConnection Id to
11, 21 and 31 in order to recognize the RRHs connected on port 4, 5 or 6 at the OMC
level. The mechanism in place is the following:

Connect RRH20-21 number 1 on the optical port 4, on so on. At OMC level, declare
the RRH with antennaConnection_11 for the first, antennaConnection_21 for the
second and antennaConnection_31 for the third RRH. These informations are sent to
the BTS in the DLU. A DLU parameter informs the BTS that the RRH connected is a
RRH20-21 and then has to work in HSSL format.

When the RRH tries to connect on the optical port of the xCCM-U (port 4, 5 or 6), the
BTS recognizes that the RRH is HSSL and then proceeds the workaround (translate
the address port 41 to 11, 51 to 21 and 61 to 31) and declare to the OMC the
connection of the RRH antennaConnection_11, 21 or 31.

Note that this workaround will be maintained in UA06 and UA07 for transparency and

Figure 10: Internal architecture of the RRH40-21

In downlink, 9341 RRH40-21 receives the optical signal from the digital Node B in
accordance with CPRI format. The signal is converted into an electrical digital base
band signal, which goes then through several digital processing functions (filtering,
digital up-conversion, peak power reduction, digital pre-distortion). The resulting digital
signal is digital to analogue converted and up converted to an RF signal. The RF

signal is amplified through a power amplifier and fed to the duplexer. 9341 RRH40-21
measures continuously the transmit RF power and has the capability to monitor
VSWR.

In uplink, two signals are received from the main and diversity antennas. They are
amplified, through low noise amplification chains, and down-converted before being
converted into digital signals. The resulting digital signals go through different digital
processing functions (digital down-conversion, filtering), and are then multiplexed
according to the required CPRI format and converted into optical signals that are sent
to the digital Node B.

9341 RRH40-21 has two antenna ports: one port is connected to a duplexer, which
provides the necessary isolation to connect the transmitter and one receiver on the
same antenna. The second 9341 RRH40-21 port enables RX diversity. 9341 RRH40-
21 also provides a TX coupling port for on-field test purpose.

The digital Base-Band processing provides daisy-chain capabilities to link several

9341 RRH40- 21 with only one fibre link coming from the digital Node B.

7.5.1 DOWNLINK POWER CONFIGURATION

The aim of this chapter is to provide a high-level description of the mechanism and
parameters (either calculated internally the Node B or provided by OMC-B) related to
downlink power configuration of Node B; more precisely to properly provision the
parameter called maxTxPower at the OMC.

The principles for downlink power configuration and management are similar between
local and remote cells. The description is given in document [Ext_ENG_02] "UPUG
UTRAN Parameters User Guide".

12. RRH PARAMETERS

The significant majority of parameters are common for local and remote cells
configurations. For more details about configuration with WiPS, see [Int_R&D08]
"NodeB Configuration Wizard"

Here are the main specificities for parameters configuration with RRH.
Parameter rrhNumberFrequency Object RemoteRadioHead
Range & Unit [0..2] Integer
User Customer Granularity Each RRH
Class 0
Value Default value = 1

0 : No software locking.
1 : Software locking, the RRH supports only 1 carrier.
2 : Software locking, the RRH supports up to 2 carriers (for RRH20-21 that
supports only 2 carriers, same behavior as value "0").

12.1. PARAMETER ANTENNACONNECTION

If the number of carriers configured in a RRH is higher than the value datafilled in
rrhNumberFrequency, then some BTSCells are not enabled with the following alarm:
alarm #283 “Carrier Activation not supported” on “BTSCell” with Manufacturer info =
“The rrhNumberFrequency parameter is limiting the number of frequencies in this
sector.”

WARNING for WiPS wizards usage : for configurations with RRH supporting 2
carriers, the wizards create all BTSCell but rrhNumberFrequency is kept to default
value ("1")
nd
=> The 2 carrier is not available and the parameter must be manually modified.
nd
This behavior is linked to the capacity licensing policy (control the activation of 2
carrier)

Parameter antennaConnection Object RRH

Range & Unit Enum : antennaConnection_1, antennaConnection_2,
antennaConnection_3, antennaConnection_4, antennaConnection_5,
antennaConnection_6, antennaConnection_11, antennaConnection_21,
antennaConnection_31
User Customer Granularity Sector

Rule: RRH_parameters_002(HC)

For RRH cells, values to use are antennaConnection_11 ,

antennaConnection_21 antennaConnection_31

12.2. PARAMETER FREQUENCYGROUPID

From OMC-B, the distinction between STSR2 and STSRm+n is through the notion of
frequencyGroup.

- In STSR2/STSR3 or RRH222/333 both frequencies shall be in the same frequency

group.

- In STSRm+n, 2 frequency groups are used (1 group for the "m" carriers + 1 group
for the "n" carriers).

Parameter frequencyGroupId Object LocalCellGroup

Range & Unit [0..1]
User Customer Granularity LocalCellGroup
Class 0
Value frequencyGroupId = 0 means that the LCG is managed by PA 1, 3, 5 and
is connected to MAIN antenna of Node B
frequencyGroupId = 1 means that the LCG is managed by PA 2, 4, 6 and
is connected to DIV antenna of Node B

In STSR2, STSR3 or RRH2 configurations, there are 2 LCG that share the
same PA: they must have the same frequencyGroupId = 0

12.3. PARAMETER CAPACITY LICENCING

Refer to CEM capacity Eng’g guide: UMT/IRC/APP/025147, section RRH capacity.

12.4. PARAMETER TRANSPORT FIBERDELAY

Parameter transportFiberDelay Object BtsCell
Range & Unit Enumeration : [noFiber, 77,134,192]
User Customer Granularity Cell
Class 0
Value This parameter replaced the UA05 parameter repeaterFiberLength. It is related
to the delay between Node B and repeaters.
It is used to configure the handover search window size in CEM board.
Possible values are :
noFiber: value to be used if the fiber length is <= 500m
[UA06=77]: [UA05=284 ] delay equivalent to 4 km of optical fiber
[UA06=134] : [UA05=400 ] delay equivalent to 7 km of optical fiber
[UA06=192]: [UA05=512 ] delay equivalent to 10 km of optical fiber
If D > 500m, the fiber length must be rounded up to the upper value.

Passing on or copying of this document, use and communication of its contents not permitted without Alcatel·Lucent written authorization

UMT/IRC/APP/020715 04.04 / EN Release 10/06/2009 Page 60/66

9341 RRH Product Engineering Information - INTERNAL

The fiber length can be estimated from the OMC (for RRH case only). The given value
must then be datafilled in transportFiberDelay:

The OMC operator uses the Get DD function and selects the Get fiberRoundTripDelay

This function returns the [Node B / RRH / Node B] round trip delay in nanoseconds.

DYNAMICAL DATA
Get DD name Attribute name Format/Range
fiberRoundTripDelay The OMC-B sends this action to request the Node B to report the round trip
delay added by the optical fiber between the CCM and the RRH
Request parameters
- -
Reply parameters (OK case)
fiberRoundTripDelay INTEGER
Unit: ns (nanosecond)

Round trip delay added by the optical fiber

between the Node B and the RRH

The next formulas explain how to relate the round trip delay (noted RTD) to a one way
fiber length: Fiberlength (L in km) = 0,0001 RTD(in nanoseconds)

Parameter cellSize Object BtsCell

Range & Unit Enum : from0to5, from5to10, from10to30, from30to60
User Customer Granularity Cell
Class 0
Value This parameter is related to the maximum delay between Node B and UE.
It is used to configure the search window size for the initial access to the
Node B.
Possible values are:
(0) for 0-5 km
(1) for 5-10 km (default value)
(2) for 10-30 km
(3) for 30-60 km only for NodeB equipped exclusively with xCEM

CellSize is related to the maximum delay allowed between Node B and UE, including :
- Delay on air (RF propagation) between antenna and UE
- Delay between Node B and RRH. Warning, the propagation on optical fiber is slower
than propagation on air (1km of fiber is equivalent to 1.5km on air).

For example :

- If TransportFiberDelay = 192 (10km), then cellSize must be greater than 15km

(10x1.5).

- With cellSize = 2 (10-30 km) and 10km of optical fiber, then delay on air (RF
propagation between RRH and UE) can be up to 15km.

12.5. MULTI CARRIERS CONFIGURATION

nd
[Internal Note: See § 12 for 2 carrier activation & datafill ].

The main characteristics of 2-carriers configuration are similar between local and
remote cells, In particular :

- The rules for filling LocalCellGroupId and FrequencyGroupId parameters are

similar between local cell and remote cells.

- The cells with same frequency group in one sector are supported by the same
power amplifier and the maximum power available is shared between the 2 cells. The
parameter paRatio is used to fix the relative power of the 2 cells.

12.5.1 PARAMETER MAXTXPOWER

Rule: RRH_output power_001 (HC)

maxTxPower(cell) = min(maxTxPower required, maxDLPowerCapability)

where:

- maxTxPower required is the value of maxTxPower of the FDDCell object;

- maxDLPowerCapability is the power computed by the Node B

The maxTxPower and maxDLPowerCapability reference point is the RRH

antenna connector.

WARNING: if datafilled value maxTxPower > maxDLPowerCapability a MIN value

is taken into account.

maxTxPower is calculated by RNC, as explained in the above rule, through the

knowledge of two other parameters maxTxPower and maxDLPowerCapability: the first
one is provided by OMC-R while the second one has to be calculated on the basis of
several configuration values either stored in module’s EEPROM either extrapolated by
the present Node B configuration, see below.

9341 RRH Product Engineering Information - INTERNAL

Rule: RRH_output power_002 (HC)

The hTRM computes the maximum power capability:

MaxPaPower = PA_x_modei_PPR_pwr - TXOUTx_cables_loss -DDM_xy_loss

This value is reported on CCM’s request.

The CCM takes into account the paRatio parameter for each cell :

MaxDlPowerCapability (cell) = MaxPaPower + 10 * log10(PaRatio/100)

Passing on or copying of this document, use and communication of its contents not permitted without Alcatel·Lucent written authorization

UMT/IRC/APP/020715 04.04 / EN Release 10/06/2009 Page 63/66

9341 RRH Product Engineering Information - INTERNAL

For RRH cells :

- PA_x_mode1_PPR_pwr and PA_x_mode2_PPR_pwr have the same value

(+43.8dBm for RRH20-21 and +46.8dBm for RRH40-21) as the RRH has only 1
amplification mode (see § 12)

- TXOUTx_cables_loss = 0.3 + externalAttenuationMainDl (internal cabling losses

are 0.3 dB)

- DDM_xy_loss is given by the attenuation table stored in SDM module inventory. The
nominal attenuation is similar between DDM and SDM.

- Case with TMA (only for RRH40-21) : similar to Macro NodeB :

0.3 dB losses are hardcoded for TMA insertion.

1.2 dB losses are hardcoded for jumpers
externalAttenuationMainDl must be > 0 when TMA is used (otherwise, a
default value of 2 dB is taken)

Rule: RRH_MaxTxPower_001 (M)

The maximum value of the OMC parameter MaxTxPower for RRH cells
according to configuration is :

Maximum values for MaxTxPower parameter

Number of frequencies RRH 20W RRH 40W

RRH1 (1 frequency) 43 dBm 46 dBm

RRH2 (2 frequencies, paRatio = 50%) 40 dBm 43 dBm

According to RF design, it is possible to reduce the maximum output power.

If externalAttenuationMainDl is not set to zero, the MaxTxPower recommended

must be reduced from the attenuation filled.
If TMA is used, remove externalAttenuationMainDl + 1.5 dB

[INTERNAL NOTES :
1. The mixity between local and remote sectors (up to 3 sectors over RRH20-21) was
documented in PEI for UA05.0. It has been removed from the supported
configurations list for the following reasons :
- No customer interest from now except in Korea market.
- Macro NodeB are supporting RRH 20W in UA05.1.

There is no way to support RRH 40 or 60W on the Macro NodeB. These RRH are only
supported on d2U v2.
