SUBJECT: Concerns of Bed Bugs

DATE: February 7, 2018

I would like to take this opportunity to address the concerns regarding the issue of bed bugs at Woonsocket
High School. First, let me say that there is no infestation, nor has there been an infestation, of bed bugs at
Woonsocket High School or any other school in the Woonsocket Education Department. As you know, the
health and safety of our students and staff are of utmost importance to us. When the incident came to my
attention I met with Carnell Henderson, Woonsocket High School Principal, Peter Fontaine, Director of
Facilities, Security and Transportation, the high school nurse, and the Woonsocket High School Head
Custodian to ensure that district procedures were followed. It is, and has always been, my practice to
demonstrate transparency when it comes to your child’s welfare and education.

On January 29th an isolated (one) case of bedbugs was reported to the nurse who followed the district
protocol and addressed the issue with the family. Next, the custodial staff at Woonsocket High School
followed the district’s Pest Management and Control Procedures and thoroughly treated the necessary rooms
on the evening of the reported incident.

Since the January 29th incident there have been no reports or cases of bed bugs at Woonsocket High School.

Again, this was an isolated case and not an infestation of bed bugs at Woonsocket High School.
