LO3 - Evaluation

Weekly blog updates are required, as with every unit. Please remember to
take photos/screenshots as you film/edit. You might find it easier if you note
down a record of what you did each day in a diary form.

Please use the following guidance to help you with each week.

LO1 This learning objective was researching target

audiences
What have you been asked to I was asked to create a production that fits my
do? specialism (Online advertising) that would
appeal to teens, people in their 30s and people
over 50. The film had to adhere to the
conventions of my genre while being effective as
a sponsored piece of content.
How has researching target Understanding what each age range wanted
audiences developed your from my work allowed me to plan my production
understanding? around their needs. I found out about their traits
and viewing habits meaning I could work out
what about the content people watch is so
appealing.
How has analysing primary My primary research has given me first hand
research allowed you to evidence to back up what I found in my
understand the requirements of secondary research. Getting primary date
your target audience? allowed me to ask my own questions and get
answers that will specifically help me with my
production.
How has analysing secondary I analysed the buying habits and personality traits
research allowed you to of the people I tried to target. This research let
understand the requirements of me make informed decisions on how I’d make a
your target audience? piece of content that suits them.
How effective was your research? My research was reasonably effective and
allowed me to work out what makes a good
advert in the eyes of each generation. My survey
monkey did not get very many responses so in
the future I will make sure it goes out to a lot
more people. This meant that I didn’t get
enough data to make relevant decisions based
on some of the questions I asked in said survey. If
I had more answers to my survey I would have
been able to make changes to my film based on
what people wanted to see.
What problems did you I did not get enough survey responses. This
encounter with the research meant I could not create an effective
process? infographic or picture what everyone wanted
from my film. I tried sending out the survey via
email and social media but I only got a handful
of responses.
What have you done to To remedy the survey problem I decided to do a
overcome these issues? series of twitter polls in the hopes of getting more
responses. I got significantly more responses and
this allowed me to come up with relevant ideas
that would help me make something for 3
generations.
How effectively did you present I presented my findings via an infographic and a
your findings? short evaluation of my research. The infographic
was much more exciting to look at and makes
the key information pop. The evaluation of my
findings showed exactly what results I got from
my research and how this would affect my
production. I also showed the results of my
surveys with print screens, this shows the exact
breakdowns of each question and how people
answered them.
What will you implement into your My research told me that the three generations
production from the research watch different types of content on different
undertaken? devices and platforms. This tells me that I need to
make a video that can be shown on multiple
platforms (TV, social media and streaming
platforms) while also appealing to all three
audiences. I wanted to create a fashion-based
piece; I have now decided to create a vintage
fashion video based around what my dad (50+)
used to wear and then compare it to the culture
now.
High Grade Tips

Look to use these terms in order to improve the analysis of your own work.
Relevant and coherent – make sure your research sources are not just the same as the
media product you hope to make and talk about how they inform your planning.
Sustained – continue your research throughout the project and don’t just limit yourself.
Efficient production against timescales – how is your planning helping you to meet your
deadline.
