Selena Quintanilla was one of the best singers of the 1980s and the 1990s. Selena started

singing at the age of 10 in her family band. Later she became famous and released many albums.

She was born in Texas and also died in Texas. She had been murdered by the founder of her fan

club. She died at the age of twenty-four. she was also called “the Queen of Tejano” or the

“Mexican Madonna”. As she started in a family band, she made it up in the world, and then died

at the age of twenty-four in Texas.

Selena Quintanilla started off her music career very early in life. “Around the age of 10,

Selena became the lead singer in her family's band, Selena Y Los Dinos” (Biography.com). The

name of the band translates into Selena and the Guys. It is probably very wonderful to be famous

or even very well known by the age of ten. “The musical group started out playing weddings and

clubs in their native Texas” (Biography.com). As she got older her voice probably improved.

Which probably helped the group get more paying gigs. “The band featured her brother Abraham

on bass guitar and her sister Suzette on the drums” (Biography.com). Her whole family was

getting well known as they all started to grow older. They must have spent a lot of time together

if they were a family band. “Her father, Abraham, a former musician, managed and produced the

group” (Biography.com). Selena Quintanilla was musician that was loved by many, including

her family. After a long time of being a family band, Selena became a solo act, and also got

married. Selena Quintanilla was a wonderful child singer, but her career as an adult was even

better.

Selena Quintanilla was a well known and well loved singer. “Selena became very popular

with Tejano music fans, and at the 1987 Tejano Music Awards, she won both "Best Female

Vocalist of the Year" and "Performer of the Year” (Biography.com). It is sure to say that she was

a musician that people enjoyed listening to. Selena was also married by the time her career had

gotten big. “Her recordings continued to have strong sales, and she won the Grammy Award

(best Mexican-American album) in 1993 for her album Live” (Biography.com). She has made

around twenty eight successful albums. Selena was a very successful woman with a short life. “

In 1994, she and the band played numerous tour dates in New York, California, Puerto Rico and

Argentina” (Biography.com). With Selena traveling all around the country and the world, it’s sad

to say that she was killed in her home state. It is also sad to think about who she was killed by.

Although Selena had risen to the top of the ladder of success, she had died at the age of twenty

four in Texas.

It is sad to say that the young, beautiful, and talented woman Selena Quintanilla was

murdered in her home state. “Selena died on March 31, 1995, in Corpus Christi, Texas, after

being shot by Yolanda Saldivar, the founder of the Selena fan club” (Biography.com). It is

unfortunate that Selena had died at such a young age. It must have been very difficult for her

family to cope with her being gone. “Saldivar had been managing Selena's boutique in San

Antonio, and was about to be fired for embezzling money” (Biography.com). It seems that

Yolanda did not wish to be fired. Yolanda must have thought that killing Selena was fair for her

getting fired. “Selena's first English-language album, Dreaming of You, was released after her

death and became a huge hit. Her music remains popular today” (Biography.com). Even though

she is not on this Earth she is still in our hearts. She will be remembered probably for a long

period of time.

The wonderful Selena Quintanilla started her career in a family band, as she got older she

had more of a career, but sadly left the world at the young age of twenty four. She was a beloved

performer of her time. She had lots of fame and a life ahead of her. It is sad to think that she was

killed over money. She will be missed. She was a wonderful person and singer.
