ASSIGNMENT 1

INDUCTANCE CALCULATIONS

1. What do you mean by GMD and GMR of a transmission line?

2. What is meant by transposition of transmission line conductors and why is
it essential?
3. What are bundle conductors and what are its advantages?
4. What are the properties essential for a transmission line conductor?
5. What are the different types of transmission line conductors?
6. Write all the formula of inductance of a transmission line.
7. A single phase line of 230 V has conductor spacing of 1.5m. The diameter of
each conductor is 1.5cm. Calculate the loop inductance in mH per Km of the
line.
8. A conductor is composed of 7 identical copper strands, each having a radius
r. Determine the GMR (self GMD) of the conductor.
9. A 3 phase transmission line 100 Km long has its conductors of 0.5cm
diameter spaced at the corners of the equilateral triangle of 120cm side. Find
the inductance per phase of the system?
10. A single circuit 3 phase line operating at 50 Hz has a conductor diameter of
5.18mm. The spacing between the conductors is Dry=3.2m, Dyb= 4m, Dbr=
5m. Calculate the inductance and the inductive reactance per phase per km
of the line.
11. The three conductors of a 3 phase transmission line are arranged in a
horizontal plane and are 4m apart. The diameter of each conductor is
25mm. determine the inductance per Km of each conductor. Assume the line
to be transposed.
