This program gives you an opportunity to earn
college credit on an official UC transcript, meet
with distinguished faculty, and build new
relationships with fellow UCR students. Take
advantage of UC Riverside courses, program
events, and workshops planned just for you!

The Summer Academy begins with an orientation,

a campus tour, and the opportunity to meet your
summer classmates. The program events provide a
multitude of helpful tips on how to make the most
of your UCR learning experience and plan for
your future academic career. You can also attend
lunch with currently enrolled UC Riverside
students who will answer questions about what
it’s like to be an undergrad at UCR and much
more. We encourage you to consider these
beneficial activities and workshops when planning
your summer schedule.

Financial Assistance
The Summer Academy is offering financial
assistance to students with financial needs on a
"first come, first served" basis due to funding
limitations. The request for assistance is included
in the application form. Students who indicate a

with information regarding the requesting process.

Program dates: For 32 years, the California State Summer School for
the Arts has sought the most talented high school-aged
July 7 - August 3, 2018 visual, literary, media and performing artists in
California. The teenagers who are selected are
designated California Arts Scholars and attend one of
the country's premier summer arts programs on the
campus of the California Institute of the Arts in
Valencia.
Over its history, CSSSA has provided its exemplary
four-week summer arts program to more than 17,000
talented high school students. Instruction is offered in
the fields of Animation, Film/ Video, Creative Writing,
Dance, Music, Theater, and the Visual Arts. For the
520 high school students accepted each year, CSSSA
represents a unique opportunity to spend four weeks
studying and working with professional artists, writers
and performers of national stature. The talented
teenagers who successfully complete the program are
eligible to receive three units of California State
University course credit.
Fee: $1,850
CSSSA is also able to help some of its students with
college aid through the distribution of Herb Alpert
Scholarships for Emerging Young Artists.

When you attend the Pre-College Program, you’ll
live in a historic undergraduate House, near
Harvard Square. You will be with your fellow
Pre-College students, resident directors, and
proctors who provide mentoring and support.
You’ll also enjoy meals in one of Harvard’s
dining halls, which are a short walk from Harvard
Yard and provide many options for a variety of
dietary needs. Your plan covers three meals a day,
seven days week, and snacks during a nightly
“brain break.”

The summer Pre-College Program offers many

intellectually stimulating co-curricular activities
beyond the classroom. With faculty and Harvard-
affiliated experts, you will have the opportunity to
participate in workshops on topics like the
psychology of color-blindness, classic literature
from around the world, health and politics of low-
income Americans, and science of happiness.
