Pastor’s Corner
Last week, I encouraged our members and friends to attend the upcoming Lenten
services offered by our local Mission Connexion. When I say “mission connexion,”
I’m talking about a group of churches in fairly close geographical proximity working
together to be about our mission, which our denomination has defined as, “Making
disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the World.” You’ll notice that
“Connexion” is spelled the way they do it in the UK, with an “x” instead of “ct” as
we normally use. The change is intentional: “x” is an ancient Christian symbol of
Jesus and the cross, symbolizing that we work together to advance the mission of Jesus. If you have
misplaced the Lenten schedule, it is as follows:

Ash Wednesday, February 14 at Stroudsburg UMC

Traditional Worship with Ashes and Communion
The Parable of the Great Banquet (Luke 14:15-24), Pastor Jim Todd, preacher

Wednesday, February 21 at East Stroudsburg UMC

Contemporary Worship with interactive sermon The Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard
(Matthew 20:1-16), Pastor Bill Kuntze, preacher
(Continued on page 2)
(Continued from page 1)

The Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37), Pastors Nina Patton-Semerod and Candy LaBar

Wednesday, March 21 at Wooddale UMC

“The Best Part of Worship” Service (come to discover what this “best part” is!)

The Parable of the Wise and Foolish Builders (Matthew 7:24-27), The Parable of the Sower (Matthew 13:1-23), &
The Parable of the Lost Sheep (Luke 15:3-7) led by Pastors Dottie Stem, Nina Patton-Semerod, and Candy LaBar
I have appreciated working with these dedicated men and women who pastor our local United Methodist churches!
I pray that you will come to as many services as you are able, especially the one which we host on February 21. As
we examine these parables of Jesus through their creative leadership, we will each be led into deeper Lenten
devotion and preparation for Easter and Holy Week!
Blessings, Pastor Jim

The Bible is a big book. Hundreds of characters by Friday, March 30
and thousands of ideas parade across its pages
from beginning to end. From the uninitiated to the
very seasoned, readers of the Bible will always
find something new to learn in The Good Book.

Over the course of 8 sessions, pastors Deron

Spoo and Kyle Idleman will visit the most salient
themes about God in the Bible. With the goal of
providing a sketch of each idea, each session will
break down the concept into two smaller sections
to unpack the meat behind the theme. At the
center of the series stands God, and each theme
will focus on who He is in relationship to His
created order.

If someone asked you to explain the gospel, what
