Bulletin Description: Normalization of models, visualization of profiles, analysis of models of


chemical processes, non-linear finite difference techniques, orthogonal collocation, non-linear
algebraic equations, initial value and boundary value problems in chemical engineering, software
packages for solving such problems.

Textbook: K. J. Beers, Numerical Methods for Chemical Engineering, Cambridge:


Cambridge University Press, 2007.

1- Constantinides and N. Mostoufi, Numerical Methods for Chemical Engineers with
MATLAB Application, Printice Hall International, 1999.
2- R. C. Rice, and D. D. Do, Applied Mathematics and Modeling for Chemical Engineers,
Wiley and Sons, New York, 1995.

Objective: Apply numerical methods to the solution of chemical engineering problems.


Make extensive usage of mathematical software such as MATLAB and MATHEMATICA.

Pre-requisite: Graduate Standing.

2- Numerical Solution of Linear and Nonlinear Algebraic Equations (4 week)
3- Numerical Solution of ODEs (Initial Value Problems and Boundary Value Problems) (3
weeks)
4- Numerical solution of PDEs (4 weeks)
5- Optimization and Model Parameter Estimation (3 week)
