1 Introduction
This document provides information about supported software, firmware, and hardware versions for the
VxRail appliance

NOTE: This Support Matrix contains the latest compatibility and interoperability information. If you observe
inconsistencies between this information and other VxRail appliance documentation or references, this
document supersedes all other documentation.

2 VxRail rules
This section contains consideration rules when using VxRail appliances.

VxRail appliance rules


Information Description

Minimum number of VxRail nodes in a cluster 3

Maximum number of VxRail nodes in a cluster 64


*Any configuration greater than 32 nodes will require a request for product
qualification (RPQ)

All nodes in a cluster must run the same version of VxRail software

Hybrid and All-Flash nodes cannot be mixed in the same cluster

The first four nodes of any cluster must be homogenous and configurations must
match

Maximum of 8 nodes when only using a 1 GbE network

10 GbE and 1GbE networks cannot both be used for VSAN traffic

8 Supported switches
This section provides information about the supported switches by the VxRail appliances.

Switches must meet the following requirements:

 Support IPv4 multicast


 Support IPv6 multicast

In addition the following are recommended:

 Enable IGMP snooping and querier.


 Enable MLD snooping and querier.

9 Getting help

9.1 Contacting Dell EMC


You can link your Online Support account with VxRail Manager and access support resources without having
to log in separately.

NOTE: If you plan to set up EMC Secure Remote Services (ESRS), you have to link your Online Support
account to VxRail Manager under the same ID or it may not work properly.

9.2 Registering for online support


You can create an Online Support account to access support resources such as:

 Register your appliance.


 Obtain product license files and software updates.
 Download Dell EMC VxRail Series product documentation.
 Download the SolVe Desktop Procedure Generator.
 Browse the Dell EMC VxRail Series community and support information.
 Link your support account for access to resources from within VxRail Manager.
To register for online support:
1. Point your Web browser to emc.com/vxrailsupport (or support.emc.com).
2. Click Register here.
3. Fill in the required information.
Support will send you a confirmation email, typically within 48 hours.

9.3 Accessing support resources


You can access support resources for your Dell EMC VxRail™ appliance by one of the following:

B Disk slot placement rules
VxRail appliances are delivered from the factory with cache and capacity disks pre-populated in specific disk
slots in the chassis. The slot location of the cache and capacity disks is important to the operation of your
appliance and should not be altered unless directed by a Dell EMC service professional.
