THE THRILL IS GONE by B.B.

KING

The next tutorial we’re going

to look is the main parts of the
bass line to La Bamba by Los
Lobos.

Now this is pretty straightfor-

ward, but there’s some nice
variations of note choice and
rhythm in the various sections
that are worth checking out.

We’re going to look at 5 sections:

the intro, Verse 1,Verse 2, the
Guitar Solo and the Outro Cho-
rus/2 Beat Outro.

Let’s get started.

Here’s what the intro looks like - the bass acts almost as a counterpoint
or countermelody to the guitar line:

That leads straight to Verse 1:

In turn that leads straight to Verse 2:

Verse 3 is a short verse - 8 bars long- and you can use the first 8 bars of
Verse 1 for this. This leads straight into the solo:

And finally we’ve got the final verse and the outro chorus and the two
beat ending: The verse repeats material we’ve already looked at - here’s
the outro chorus and the two beat ending:

HOW TO PROGRAM THE DIFFERENT SECTIONS IN BAND IN A BOX

1. Set the key to C

2. Aim for a performance tempo of 150 BPM

3. Choose a style to play with. For a band style, I used the Rockabilly
Rock And Roll Band Real tracks (but muted the piano). And there’s also
the chordal metronome built into BIAB 2015 and 2016.

4. Mute the bass.

Here’s what the intro would look like when programmed:

Different verses would be extremely similar with just variations of bar
length. Here for example is the solo when programmed:
