Lesson Plan:

Name of the Activity: ​The Class Crayon Box

Objective:​ Students will be able to learn anti-bias curriculum based on color and the importance
of unity

Academic Standards:​ Mathematics, Language Arts, Fine Arts

Age Appropriate:​ 5 and up

Materials:

● Paper
● Markers
● Colors
● crayon stencil
● the book
● poster or bulletin board
● glue

Anticipatory Set/Introduction: ​Begin by reading the story “The Crayon Box that Talked” and
ask the children their thoughts based on the book and make the connection of the class being like
the box of crayons.

Procedure and Guided Practice:

● Trace crayon stencil


● cut it out
● single color or decorate
● place picture or draw one
● stick with velcro until each student is a crayon in the crayon box

Open Ended Questions:

● Does it matter what color we choose?


● Is one color better than another?
● Are we better off with just one color or many colors?
● What happened when the crayons came together?

Closure and Recall: ​Ask the children what they learned.
