Greetings Parents/Guardians,

I hope this letter finds you well. My name is Ms. Harewood and I am a 6th grade social studies teacher
at Albemarle Road Middle School. This year our school was invited to participate in the Annual Greater
Charlotte Alliance of Black School Educators Black History Month Quiz Bowl. This event will take place on
Saturday, February 18th, 2017 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at the Levine Museum of the New South (200 East
Seventh St., Charlotte, NC, 28202) and I will be coaching our team as we prepare to compete against seven
other Charlotte Mecklenburg School District middle schools.

You are receiving this letter because your student has been nominated by their social studies teacher to
be a member of the Albemarle Road Quiz Bowl team. Their participation will require commitment, dedication
and teamwork skills, which are qualities their nominating teachers have identified in them. Although only 5
students can respond to questions at a time, I’m looking to build a team of 7-9 students in order to allow for a
rotation system and substitutes.

In order to guarantee the success of our quiz bowl team, I need your assistance in a few ways. First, I
ask that you allow your student to participate in this opportunity. Second, I request that you support your
students’ research and preparation process and after-school practices that will be held on Tuesdays and
Thursdays. Finally and most importantly, I ask that you make a commitment to provide transportation for
your student on Saturday, February 18th, 2017 from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm, as our team participation will not be
possible without them.
