4.Pre Installation steps

4.1.User Setup

The Symantec Backup Exec requires a local Windows user, under which the backup
jobs can be performed. For Centricity PACSIW Server Platform the IntegradService
user account is configured on every PACSIW server (db-server, backup- server, NAS
device). The user IntegradService should already be installed since it was created
during the Basic PACSIW Server Setups

User: IntegradService

 The next steps needs to be performed on the PACS-IW database server

 Make sure SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) and SQL Server Agent
(MSSQLSERVER) services are running with a domain or local user account which
has access to the remote computer. (If the services are running with “LOCAL
SYSTEM”, they will NOT be able to save files to the remote computer).
refer to chapter 4.2
 To schedule the backup job, open SQL Server Management Studio
 Go to Management. Right click on Maintenance Plans, and choose Maintenance
Plan Wizard

4.4.Prepare folder structure in the image storage areas

Usually PACSIW supports two Storage Areas:

an Online area (required - lossless)
and an Aged area (optional -lossy).

Each area could contain one or more data volumes (i.e. Windows disks, for example
D:, E:, etc). In each data volume, PACSIW manages studies by study import date
(e.g., the date PACSIW receives the study), and study database ID number, for
example:

Lossless:
D:\IntegradWeb\3.x\data\Dstorage\2007\4\2\1000
\1001
\1002

Lossy:
E:\IntegradWeb\3.x\data\Aged\2007\4\2\1000
\1001
\1002

Since we don’t know in which data volume the images will be stored, we need to
create the year and month folders on every data volume in advance

Login to the server where the image data will be stored (NAS Server) and create the
folder for the next 12 month on every data volume

If not already existing create a folder for the

year(s) and underneath the folder structure for the
months – see example on left side

Repeat this for all data volumes:

In the example the same needs to be done for
drive E:, F:,G:,H:,I

4.5.Prepare tape- library

The tape library should already be installed and attached to the system
Refer to the “HP storage works MSL2024df getting started” and the “HP storage
works MSL2024 user and service guide” to install and configure the library.

4.5.1. Operating the tape library

Operator Control Panel (OCP):

The tape library has a Operator Control Panel (OCP).

The OCP has a power button, four LEDs, four control keys, and a 2-line by 16-
character LCD screen.

It provides everything you need to monitor tape library status and to control all of its
functions.

Cancel – Cancels the current menu option, returns to the previous menu level, or
returns to the Home screen

Enter – Executes the current menu or selects the current option displayed on the
LCD screen

Previous – Selects the next item or value in the currently displayed menu

Next – Selects the next

4.5.2. Configuration of the library

Change Admin Password

Navigate thru the menu and set admin password to “22222222”

Network Configuration
Make sure that the tape library has a valid network configuration and afterwards place
a link to the libraries ip- address in the internet explorer favorites of the backup server.
Open the link to check you can get access to the remote management interface (RMI)
of the library.

Mailslot Configuration:
The library needs to be configured to use the Mailslot. In the menu, navigate to
“Maislot Configuration” and configure the system to use Slot1 as Mailslot.

4.5.3. Labeling tape cartridges

Attaching a bar code label to each tape cartridge enables the library and application
software to identify the cartridge quickly, thereby speeding up inventory time. Ultrium
tape cartridges have a recessed area located on the face of the cartridge next to the
write-protect switch. Use this area for attaching the adhesive-backed bar code label.

least 10 tapes in the library. Use the Operator Control Panel of the library and
navigate to “Unlock Left Magazine” or “Unlock Right Magazine” to release a
magazine. See “MSL2024 user and service guide” for detailed instructions if needed

Place the tapes in the magazine, start with the left magazine and insert at least
tapes in the first 10 slots, starting with slot 1, but don’t insert a tape in the
mailslot

Left magazine

If you have more tapes to add, first restock the complete left magazine, then fill up the
right magazine.

6.4.Backup Schema

Centricity PACSIW uses a 7-day tape rotation plan with an additional monthly backup
tape. The backup tapes are organized in Media Sets. “Media Set 1” contains the tape
with the backup for monday, “Media Set 2” the tape with the backup for Tuesday and
so on. The monthly tape is part of the Media Set “Monthly Backup”

The full-backup scheduled for every day of the week, will run after midnight and save
the data from the previous day on the tape in the corresponding Media Set for that
day.

The backup job for Monday will run on Tuesday morning for instance and save the
data for the current month on the tape in “Media Set 1”. This way every tape will
contain one more day in the months comparing to the tape used in the previous day.
In addition a monthly backup is written on the first day in every month and will backup
everything from the pervious month.

6.5.Media Set Configuration

 In “Symantec Backup Exec 12.5 for Windows Servers”, click on the Media tab, then

to the naming convention below, confirm with OK

Example for description:

Slot 1 : HP1-Mon-1,

Slot 3 : HP1-Wed-1
Slot 4 : HP1-Thu-1
Slot 5 : HP1-Fri-1
Slot 6 : HP1-Sat-1
Slot 7 : HP1-Sun-1

Slot 8 : HP1-Jan-1
(Jan - if the current month is
January, otherwise use appropriate
Feb, Mar, Apr, May, Jun, Jul, Aug,
Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec)

For daily backups: Drive Number – Day of the Week – Sequence Number

Drive Number:
The drive number should reflect the name of the drive, e.g. HP1

Day of the week

The day of the week is a three-character abbreviation for the weekday. The tapes will
contain all data from the current month that have been created until the end of this
day.

Sequence Number:
At some point in the backup life cycle, a daily tape may be removed from the daily
rotation and put into permanent storage. The Sequence Number helps keep track of
tapes that have been removed to permanent storage. Each time a tape is removed to
permanent storage, a new tape will be created with the next sequence number. The
first tapes will all have a sequence number of one and each new tape created will
follow in numerical order (e.g., 1, 2, 3, 4)

For instance a media with the description HP1-Sun-2 will be used by drive HP1 and
will contain all the data, which was coming in until the end of the last Sunday. Since
the sequence number is “2”, the tape was replaced once.

For monthly backups: Drive Number – Month– Sequence Number

For drive Number and Sequence Number – see above

Month
The month is a 3 character abbreviation for the month. The tapes will contain all data
from that month

Examples: HP1-Jan-1, HP1-Feb-1, HP1-Mar-1….

6.6.2. Associate Medias with a Media Set

Per default the tape for Monday should be associated with “Media Set 1”, the tape for
Tuesday associated with “Media Set 2” and so on. The tape for the monthly backup
should be associated with the Media Set “Monthly Backup”.
