Quality Staff

As a prospective employee, I am able to demonstrate great teamwork and effective

collaboration and communication amongst peers and faculty. As an undergraduate
student interested in CASE, I value experiences and the learning processes while
working well with others to achieve an overall goal. “Participants place extremely
high value on the support they receive from their peers, including working
collaboratively on group projects that provided overall encouragement” (Mahoney
100). Not only have I personally benefitted from encouragement from peers and
faculty, but I also act as an enabler amongst peers and faculty. Not only is it
important to serve as resources for participants, but it is also important to value the
students themselves. “This training has the potential to increase program quality and
promote positive youth development” (Mahoney 100). It is important to not only
view the program, education, and family as individual aspects of a children’s life. It is
important to view all aspects cohesively and equally important for children. In the
end they all impact the students. As a prospective employee, I would serve as a
connector within both the family and school.

One of my many strengths and competencies is my commitment to one’s learning,

skill building and professionalism on the job. This competency reflects the
professionalism maintained and applied within the workplace including daily
encounters and necessities such as self-improvement, positive work and team ethic,
and communication with staff and others. This is an area of strength for me because
I not only am professional as individual but also play an active role within teams and
find ways in which I can improve and exceed the expectations of me (Mott 10).

On the other hand, an area to improve and grow in is the ability to respectfully
engage the important adults in the participants’ lives. It’s important to have an
authority figure at home who knows what educational concepts to incorporate
within the home. I find the need to grow in this area because at times it may be
conflicting when communicating to the adults when discussing the performance of
children. It is the responsibility of both the staff and adults to remain respectful
throughout meetings (Mott 9).

While staff competencies are important, the director obtains a large role and various
responsibilities that come with the position as well. One of the leadership qualities
that is important for me is the ability of the supervisors and leaders to successfully
lead the staff. As directors of the site, maintaining a good foundation for educational
programs is definitely important in setting the environment for smooth and effective
outcomes. Leadership of the remaining staff is important for the overall performance
of the program (Mott 13).
