“ INTROduction ”

 What is it?
Six small authoring programs for Windows or Macintosh that you install
on your computer. They take the questions, answers, and input that you type
in and use javascript to create interactive quizzes and exercises. The
exercises created can be used locally, or on a web page.

More specifically, the Hot Potatoes suite includes six applications,

enabling you to create interactive multiple-choice, short-answer, jumbled-
sentence, crossword, matching/ordering and gap-fill exercises.

Quite simply, Hot Potatoes software allows you to make interactive web
games and puzzles for students.

 How can I get it, and how much does it cost?

This software is available from the Hot Potatoes web site
(http://hotpot.uvic.ca/)

There is no cost for those working for publicly-funded non-profit-making

educational institutions--- educators like you and me.

 Do I have to be a computer “expert” to use it?

Absolutely not.

Hot Potatoes is very intuitive and “user friendly”.

There are free and easy-to-follow tutorials available online

 Is it only applicable to ESL/EFL learning?
Absolutely not.

Hot Potatoes can be used for more than just English language learning.

Hot Potatoes can also be used for a variety of other learning activities.
