There have been several reported failures of Rustronic Fuel Valve Actuator Electronics. Investigations
revealed that failures were due to an excessive cable impedance between the Fuel Valve Actuator and
the battery supply.
Under these conditions, transient current surges may be generated which can cause damage to the
components in the actuator power supply board (particularly capacitor C1 and Zener Diode Z1)
To reduce these current surges and consequential component failures, installations having an excess of
50 metres of cable between the battery supply and the turbine should have an electrolytic capacitor (as
described below) fitted across the incoming voltage supply to the actuator.
NOTE: It would be beneficial to fit this modification to all TB-5000 and TA-2500 turbines irrespective
of cable length.
MODIFICATION PROCEDURE
2. Secure the bracket to the Actuator Electronics enclosure wall using the two M4 x 10mm screws
and shakeproof washers into existing threaded holes.
3. Insert the capacitor into the clip with the terminals at the front and secure using the M4 x 25mm,
shakeproof washer and nut. The capacitor must be securely mounted and arranged with the vent
plug towards the top and the bracket around the base as illustrated in Fig.1
A Kit is available from our Spares Organisation comprising the following parts:
QUANTlTY NAME
1 Capacitor 4700/UF 63VW (Ripple rating 10amp at 85
degree centigrade
1 Bracket (See Fig.2)
2 M4 x 0.7 x 10mm Pan Head Screws
1 M4 x 0.7 x 25mm Pan Head Screws
1 M4 x 0.7 Full Nut
3 M4 Shakeproof Washers
2 M5 Ring Terminals for Electrical Capacitor connections.
2 Bootlace Ferrules for Klippon Terminal connections.
- 19/0.28 Red wire & Black wire as necessary.
ORDERING
If when ordering the Kit of parts the number of this Service Bulletin (SB/TU/82-8) is quoted, our usual
minimum order charge will be waived.
NOTE: It may be possible for users to purchase all the parts, except the bracket, locally, with this in
mind we include as Fig.4 the manufacturing drawing of the bracket, however, it should be
appreciated that the bracket is designed to accommodate a capacitor of approx. 50mm dia.,
therefore if a locally purchased capacitor has significant difference in size, the bracket
dimension(s) must be varied accordingly.
