The Autonomous Learning Support Base (ALSB) is a Self-Access Centre

(SAC) located at the Federal University of Pará. I was part of the ALSB staff
throughout my undergraduation years. During this time, I developed an
undergraduate research that assessed activities promoted and held by students
at the ALSB. The results of my previous study (BARRETO, 2017) indicated that
the duration of the activity was directly proportional to participants’ withdrawal.
Therefore, I have recommended every section to be followed by the application
of a questionnaire that will focus on each section’s qualities and limitations,
allowing students to rethink their strategies and fulfil the participants’
expectations.

There are a number of benefits for the leaning community in having

undergraduates taking the position of lecturers to their peers, including the
creation of a less formal environment, the liberty to commit mistakes, and the
development of new learning and teaching strategies. However, the
aforementioned extent of participants’ dropouts had a direct effect in students’
motivation. During interviews, they reported their frustration regarding their
expectations for the activity and the way things actually happened throughout
each section. According to Barreto (2017), in order to meet students’ needs and
increase their motivation, the agents’ role must become more evident and the
activities held by students in the SAC demand a more functional and frequent
orientation.
