PA STANDARD(S) (Write out standards):

CC.2.1.2.B.3
Use place value understanding and properties of operations to add and subtract within 1000.
CC.2.2.2.A.1
Represent and solve problems involving addition and subtraction within 100.

ASSESSMENT ANCHOR(S) (Write out the anchors):

OBJECTIVE(S) (Be sure to include all four parts):

Students will actively participate as observed by the total completion of the in-classwork as it is completed as a
class.
Students will complete problems on pages 451-454 of their Go Math Chapter 6 book to practice skills necessary
for their summative assessment during the next class period.

MATERIALS:
Go Math Chapter Book
Pencil
Touchdown Scoot Activity

ACTIVITIES (There are three sections here):

OPENING (hook, purpose and basic plan)

Students will review Calendar Math and Fact Families with instructor, day 101.
Ask students Chapter Essential Questions.
What are some strategies for adding and subtracting 3-digit numbers?
What are the steps when finding the sum in a 3-digit addition problem?
What are the steps when finding the difference in a 3-digit subtraction problem?
When do you need to regroup?

BODY:(Bulleted step by step)

 Instruct students to have their eyes and ears focused on the person giving the instructions, and not to
touch materials being passed out.
 Pass out touchdown scoot score sheet. Tell students they are going to go around the room and solve
equations to work their way down the field towards a touchdown. They are to work independently and
must answer every question.
 Allow students to work until they complete the activity. When they are finished, they should begin on
the review in their book.
 Have students turn to page 451 in their books and tear out pgs 451-454. (p451-454 in teacher’s edition)
 Have students close and put away their books.
 Instruct students to begin their review sheets, asking questions as necessary. Instructor should be
moving throughout room to offer guidance and assistance. Aids should be as well.
 When it appears that all students have answered #s 1-4, pause the group to show the personal math
trainer video. Also review numbers 1-4.
 Then allow students to continue working on the review.
 When all students have finished the review, have students put the answers on the board for review and
discussion.

CLOSURE (Wrap up and brief summary):

Instruct students to take home all chapter materials to study for chapter test on Monday. When finished,
students may read until it is time for science/health/social studies to begin.

ACCOMMODATIONS:
Use of verbal praise, verbal cuing, redirection
Preferential seating
Aids are present and helping students with relevant needs.

ASSESSMENT (How you will determine that student has mastered objectives?):
Instructor will continuously, informally assess students for comprehension, attention, and participation
throughout the lesson.
Students will take a summative assessment during the next class period to assess skills learned during the
chapter.

SELF-ASSESSMENT/REFLECTION (Complete this section if you have taught this lesson to peers or in clinical
placement):

Students greatly enjoyed the Touchdown Scoot game. The movement helped keep them engaged as well as
keeping them awake in the afternoon. Students did struggle with the 90-yard line and touchdown boxes, as the
problems did enter the thousands place value, but the students did find them enjoyably challenging.

Many students continued to have problems with regrouping through a zero in the tens place. We reviewed this
type of problem a few more times, using the I – we – you, and students seemed to have understood more. We
have used manipulatives and many different approaches to support student’s understanding, but some
students are not grasping the concept. With one-on-one work that was able to take place on the 100th day and
during this review, they are making better gain.
