Version 3.0
May, 2012

For post-sales and technical pre-sales audiences

This Product limitations review document is designed to highlight and communicate the major
product limitations of the HP Designjet T1300/T790 Printer series. This document also
provides an update for T2300 eMPF product limitations. This document updates the product
limitations of the T2300 with the firmware of late May’11 installed. Included are appropriate
workarounds (where possible). It is intended for HP internal use only and is subject to change
as and when new information is available. It should be treated with the utmost confidentiality
and should not be reproduced and distributed openly. Its purpose is to serve as an
informational document for those who come into direct contact with customers (Sales Force,
Marketing Centers, and Technical Support) so that they can VERBALLY acknowledge the
limitations, explain them, and provide the best possible workaround. The limitations
described here will only affect some users some of the time.

Chapter 1: Hardware & Firmware Limitations

• Dust on Output Platen due to HP Superheavy High Gloss paper.
• Cut edge straightness is not as good as other T Series printers while cutting 3rd Party
Natural Tracing Medias
• The cutting procedure makes more noise than the other T Series printers.
• Part of the image is lost when scanning thin or semi-transparent papers
Dust on Output Platen due to HP Superheavy High Gloss paper

Limitation type: Permanent product limitation

Symptom seen by the customer:

If the customer is using HP Super-heavy High Gloss paper regularly, dust can accumulate in
the center window.

Communication to customers:
The root cause for this issue is the new cutter design that is not as robust as before while
cutting these types of heavy media, the design causes shavings of paper or dust.
Important: This is just a cosmetic issue and will not affect to the printer's overall
performance. If the customer complains about this issue, the recommendation is to carefully
clean the output platen with a humid cloth and then if possible switch to other similar papers
that do not cause dust, such as HP Universal High Gloss Paper. There will be a new cutter
design in the future to avoid this issue.

The straightness of a cut edge is not as good as other T series printers while cutting 3rd
Party Natural Tracing papers

Limitation type: Permanent product limitation

Symptom seen by the customer:

If a customer is using 3rd Party Natural Tracing papers regularly, in certain combinations of
media and environment, the cut might curve up at the ends. This effect is not shown in other
T Series.

Communication to customers:
This is due to the new cutter. To mitigate this issue, there is a special cut mode that can be
enabled in the service mode. The call agent can remotely guide a customer to activate this
mode.

HP Designjet T790, T1300, T2300 eMFP 5

Product Limitation Document

The cutting procedure is a bit noisier than the other T Series printers.
Limitation type: Permanent product limitation

Symptom seen by the customer:

This can be noted by a customer when : 1) The customer is in a very quiet environment and
is comparing the printer with other T series printer 2) The new printer is less noisy than the
other T series printers but then, while cutting, the noise is greater.

Communication to customers:
This is not an issue, the cut noise is by design. The new cutter and belt that these new
printers have are very silent making the overall noise specs very low. But when cutting, the
noise can be more noticeable. This might be seen by some customers as a defect, but in fact,
it is normal. The project for the future is to have a new cutter design to mitigate this effect.

Time to recover from Sleep Mode is too high

Limitation type: Permanent product limitation

Conditions when the problem occurs: Recovering from Sleep mode takes the system 50
seconds to recover the functionality. T1120 SD-MFP takes only 15 seconds. The problem
with this issue is not technical problem, is for the feeling that this causes about the product.
The customer needs to wait in front of the scanner almost 1 minute before using the system.

Symptoms affecting the customer: Long waiting time to recover from sleep mode.

Communication to the customer: This is normal behaviour.

Products affected: T2300, T1200?

How-To-Reproduce: Recover from sleep mode

Part of the image is lost when scanning thin or semi-transparent papers

Limitation type: Temporary product limitation

Cause of the problem: There might be clipping on an image when scanning thin or
transparent media types. The following are two reasons why this issue may occur:
• The scanner reads the content that is located inside the E-size marks. Any part of the
image outside those marks will not be read. If the paper edge is located outside those
marks, the edge will not be detected either.
• If the paper is too thin, the scanner might not find the paper edge easily.
In both situations described above, the scanner can confuse a black line inside the image
with the paper edge. If the image profile is not regular, parts of the image might be lost.
Here is an example:

6 HP Designjet T790, T1300, T2300 eMFP

Product Limitation Document

Communication to the customer: The available workarounds:

1. Make sure that the paper edge is located at the left of the E-size mark.
2. Change the orientation of the job, it could be that a different orientation works better for
the image type you want to scan.
3. If the paper is too thin, place a piece of white paper below the original to scan it.
4. Use the option to Scan full width, available from firmware IG_02_05_00.0 onwards.

Note: A future firmware release will include a setting to scan the full scanner width without
looking for the paper edge.

Chapter 2: Media management

The following limitations can be found:
• Bond papers should not be used beyond their operating conditions (Temperature greater
than 30 ºC/86 ºF, RH greater than 70%). Otherwise, if ink density is high, they are
wrinkled Tracing papers below 60 gsm crash by the last 15m of the roll
• Tracing papers below 60 gsm crash by the last 15m of the roll
• Matte black ink might smudge easily with HP Vivid White Glossy Polyester Film.
• Dynamic media marks in HP Glossy Instant Dry medias

Bond papers should not be used beyond their operating conditions (Temperature greater
than 30 ºC/86 ºF, RH greater than 70%). Otherwise, if ink density is high, they are wrinkled

Limitation type: Permanent product limitation

Symptoms affecting the customer:

With a mixture of the scenarios described below there is a high probability that the
customer will see some vertical wrinkles in the paper, on at least one of the sides of the plot.
Customers will see a difference in color in the wrinkle (this is due to ink smearing).
This issue will happen if:
• Temperature and relative humidity are high ( Temperature greater than 30°C / 86°F;
Relative humidity greater than 70%), beyond the operating conditions specified for Bond
papers
• Full coverage plots (with no white space at all) with high ink density are printed
Important note:
The issue occurs at relative humidity levels which exceed the specs of the paper but not the
operating condition specifications of the printer.
It is important to notice that, while the printer is specified to operate up to 35oC / 80% RH,
each paper type has its own operating conditions in the specs. In particular:
• HP Universal Inkjet Bond paper  Up to 30oC / 70% RH
• HP Bright White Inkjet paper  Up to 35oC / 70% RH
• HP Universal Coated paper  Up to 30oC / 70% RH
• HP Coated paper  Up to 35oC / 80% RH
So, in fact, the first paper in the portfolio that supports working at relative humidity levels
higher than 70% is the HP Coated Paper (not even the HP Universal Coated paper will do
this), where there is no issue with wrinkles. This means that the issue will only be seen when
printing high density content in environmental conditions that exceed the specs of the paper

Product Limitation Document

type being used (even if the printer is within the operating conditions specified by the printer
HW).

In context:
• Designjet 5x0/800: No wrinkles under these conditions, but overall print quality in high
humidity is much worse
• Designjet 1000 series: No wrinkles under these conditions, but overall print quality in
high humidity is much worse
• Canon iPF 600/700: No wrinkles under these conditions; evaluation of print quality not
available.

Tracing papers below 60 gsm crash by the last 15m of the roll

Limitation type: Permanent product limitation

Symptoms affecting the customer:

If tracing paper is loaded and is below 60 gsm, there is a high probability that there will be
a paper crash at the end of the roll (around the last 15m).

Communication to the customer:

Paper below 60 gsm is not supported; please use paper above 60gsm.

In context:
• HP Designjet 5x0/800: Paper below 60 gsm is not officially supported, but paper
between 50 and 60 gsm work without crashes
• HP Designjet 100 series: Paper below 60 gsm is not officially supported, but paper
between 50 and 60 gsm work without crashes
Canon iPF 600/700: Paper below 60 gsm is not officially supported, but paper between 50
and 60 gsm work without crashes.
Matte black ink might smudges easily with HP Vivid White Glossy Polyester Film
Limitation type: Permanent product limitation.

Symptoms affecting the customer:

If customer is using HP Vivid White Glossy Polyester Film to print large black areas jobs,
depending on the workflow (e.g. if you archive the job), the ink might be smudged.

Communication to customers:
This is due to the interaction of this type of paper and the matte black ink (pigmented ink). If
the black areas are just lines, the issue will not be seen by a customer. If customer is using
this media to print large black areas, depending on the post work after the job, a smudge
might occur. As workaround, recommend customer to load the paper as FILM paper where
the amount of Matte black ink is reduced.

Product Limitation Document

Dynamic media marks in HP Glossy Instant Dry medias

Limitation type: Permanent product limitation.

Symptoms affecting the customer:

Customer might see marks in the paper.

Communication to customers:
The root cause for the marks are the new arms that the printer has in the roll cover.
• In order to mitigate these marks, there is an HP Designjet T1300 and T2300 service utility
that can be activated with the help of the call center via the front panel. The option when
selected will print with the roll 1 cover open (under normal conditions the media will
automatically unload if the roll cover is opened during a print). With this option selected
the pressure on the arms making the marks on the media is reduced.
• If the issue occurs in the HP Designjet T790 (if the roll cover is open, the media is not
unloaded), just try to print with the roll cover open.
Note: It is very important to later switch back to the normal mode of printing (with the roll
cover closed) to avoid other image quality issues.
• The other workaround is to use HP Universal High Gloss.

Chapter 3: Limitations related to Color & General

Image Quality
The following limitations can be found:
• HP 72 Inks fade visibly on instant-dry photo papers
• Vertical lines appear in job
• Bad line quality (continuity and width) when doing copies and scans with Fast mode and
de-skew
• Wrinkles or folds in the original appear very visible in the copy
• Gray neutrality when copying a photo dye original to coated
• Color emulation of Designjet 800 or 1050 does not work when the color setting in the
driver is set to “Grayscale”
• When emulating a Designjet 800 or 1050, grays may not seem to be accurately
emulated while color is.
• Poor Image Quality due to star-wheel marks on Cling Paper when printing dark-medium
high density areas
• Color mis-registration in Fast and Normal
• Color copies of tracing originals, with no white sheet behind, have a dirty background
• Inaccurate lines in the first or last 10cm of a job
• Part of the image is lost when scanning borderless originals
HP 72 inks fade visibly on instant-dry photo papers
Limitation type: Permanent product limitation

Symptoms affecting the customer:

HP 72 inks are ‘Vivera’ inks which have better smudge resistance, dry time and light
fastness than inks that are being used in older HP Designjet printers, such as the HP
Designjet 5x0, 800 Printer series. However, images printed by the HP Designjet T Printer
series will fade on instant-dry photo papers, such as HP Universal Instant-Dry Photo Gloss
and HP Universal Instant-Dry Photo Semi-Gloss. This is because instant-dry photo papers,
unlike other glossy papers, provide the benefit of fast dry, but at the expense of the ink
permanence of dye inks.

Communication to the customer:

Customers that need a better permanence for their prints can use other HP media such as HP
Universal High-Gloss Photo Paper or HP Universal Semi-Gloss Photo Paper.

HP Designjet T790, T1300, T2300 eMFP 11

Product Limitation Document

Vertical lines appear in job

Limitation type: Permanent product limitation

Conditions when the problem occurs: When copying/scanning area fill originals with CIS
technology scanners. Mainly seen in area fills with glossy media

Cause of the problem:

A CIS technology limitation and high resolution makes the system too sensitive to dust.

Symptoms affecting the customer:

Random vertical thin lines appear in scanned images. They can be black and white, with
different lengths and positions.

Communication to the customer:

This is a limitation of CIS technology and all competitors are also affected. To scan non-
technical originals with area fills or high quality photos the recommended technology is
CCD. Clean scanner media path.

Products affected:

Product Limitation Document

Bad line quality (continuity and width) when doing copies and scans with Fast mode and
de-skew

Limitation type: Permanent product limitation

Conditions when the problem occurs:

All thin lines horizontal and vertical. Bad line quality (continuity and width) when doing
copies and scans with Fast mode

Cause of the problem:

Bad line quality (continuity and width) when doing copies and scans with Fast mode and
when de-skew is on. The identified cause is the media skew because of the frequency of the
defect is around 1cm, which does not correspond to a printer/pen defect and the copied
images are clearly skew.

Symptoms affecting the customer:

Communication to the customer:

Set De-skew OFF or use Normal mode.

Products affected: T2300

Product Limitation Document

Wrinkles or folds in the original appear very visible in the copy

Limitation type: Permanent product limitation

Conditions when the problem occurs: Wrinkles or folds in the original

Cause of the problem:

CIS technology limitation due to the low deep of focus and sharpen illumination

Symptoms affecting the customer:

Wrinkles or folds in the original appear are very visible in the copy

Communication to the customer:

This is a limitation of CIS technology and all competitors are also affected. To scan non-
technical originals with Wrinkles or folds in the original the recommended technology is
CCD.

Product Limitation Document

Gray neutrality when copying a photo dye original to coated

Limitation type: Permanent product limitation

Conditions when the problem occurs:

The scanner ICC profile for PHOTO PAPER is not suited for dye-inkjet glossy originals in
neutral or gray tones, hence they look a little magenta. The rest of colors look good. This
problem is more evident when copying a glossy original into coated paper (when copying
into glossy paper, the result is acceptable).

Cause of the problem:

Copies (mostly on coated paper) and scanned files of the Atkinson plot (printed on HP
Universal High Gloss with any T series printer) look magenta in neutral tones when selecting
the PHOTO PAPER ICC profile for the scanner.

Symptoms affecting the customer:

Dye-inkjet glossy originals in neutral or gray tones, hence looking a little magenta.

Communication to the customer: Use pigmented ink

Products affected: T2300 eMFP

HP Designjet T790, T1300, T2300 eMFP 15

Product Limitation Document

The following limitations can be found:

• Color emulation of Designjet 800 or 1050 does not work when the color setting in the
driver is set to “Grayscale”
• When emulating a Designjet 800 or 1050, grays may not seem to be accurately
emulated while color is.
• Poor Image Quality due to star-wheel marks on Cling Paper when printing dark-medium
high density areas
• Color mis-registration in Fast and Normal
• Color copies of tracing originals, with no white sheet behind, have a dirty background
Color emulation of Designjet 800 or 1050 does not work when the color setting in the driver
is set to “Grayscale”
Limitation type: Permanent product limitation

Symptom seen by the customer:

When a customer selects « Grayscale » and « Color emulation », the output does not
emulate a Designjet 800 or 1050

Communication to customers:
Color emulation is only provided for color images. In the grayscale color pipeline, color
emulation is disabled.
When emulating an HP Designjet 800 or 1050, grays may not seem to be accurately
emulated while color is

Limitation type: Permanent product limitation

Symptom seen by the customer:

A customer prints a document that contains color and grays in a Designjet 800 or 1050
and then, prints the same document in the Designjet T1300 and T2300 using the emulation
mode. While colors are accurately emulated, grays in the emulated print do not look like
grays in the original.
This is because inks in the HP Designjet 800 and 1050 had a metamerism that was much
higher than the inks in the HP Designjet T1300 and T2300. While the HP Designjet T1300
and T2300 has similar perceptions of grayscale under any lighting condition, Designjet 800
or 1050 will show very different grays in daylight or under fluorescent light.
The HP Designjet T1300 and T2300 emulates the color that the Designjet 800 produces
under daylight (D50). When comparing the emulation under other lighting conditions (for
example, fluorescent F50), colors will look similar, but grays will be very different due to the
metamerism on the emulated products.

16 HP Designjet T790, T1300, T2300 eMFP

Product Limitation Document

Communication to customers:
Inks in the HP Designjet T1300 and T2300 have a higher quality and are designed to have
as little metamerism as possible. So, when comparing the output to that of devices with a
higher metamerism like Designjet 800 or 1050, the comparison will vary depending on the
lighting conditions.

Poor image quality due star-wheel marks on HP Cling Paper when printing dark medium-high
density areas

Limitation type: Permanent product limitation

Symptom seen by the customer:

If customer is using HP Cling Paper to print large black areas jobs, the printout may contain
star-wheels marks.

Communication to customers:
HP Cling Paper does not provide a good level of image quality if the customer wants to print
jobs with large areas of black. This is a limitation of the current HP Cling Paper that will be
solved in the future revisions of the paper. As of today, there is no workaround for this issue.
If the customer wants to use the printer just for this media type it is better to use a Z series
printer.

Color mis-registration in Fast and Normal

Limitation type: Permanent

product limitation

Conditions when the

problem occurs:
Scanning/copying at 200
dpi. Mainly horizontal
(when parallel to the sensor
array) and diagonal lines.

Cause of the problem:

Black and dark lines appear
colored when scanning at
200 dpi. Mainly horizontal
(when parallel to sensor array) and diagonal lines. Also
some color can be seen in horizontal lines scanning at
300dpi, but is less visible.

HP Designjet T790, T1300, T2300 eMFP 17

Product Limitation Document

Calibration does not fix the problem

Symptoms affecting the customer:

Black and dark lines and text appears colored (green-magenta) when scanning/copying at
200 dpi. Mainly horizontal (parallel to sensor array) and diagonal lines.
Communication to the customer:
Scan and copy in Best and grey scale

Products affected: T2300

How-To-Reproduce:
Perform a Copy or a Scan at 200 dpi scanning resolution.

Color copies of tracing originals, with no white sheet behind, have a dirty background

Limitation type: Temporary product limitation

Conditions when the problem occurs:

When copying a tracing paper original in color mode, even if TRANSLUCENT PAPER TYPE is
chosen in the touch control panel, the result has a dirty background. The same happens in
pure BW mode.

Cause of the problem:

Current default for LINES content type and TRANSLUCENT paper type has insufficient
background cleaning (now is 4). If background cleaning is set to 5, then results are perfect.

Symptoms affecting the customer: dirty background scanning tracing originals.

Communication to the customer:

Set background cleaning to 5.

Products affected: T2300

How-To-Reproduce: Copy a tracing paper original with T2300 eMFP using LINES and
TRANSLUCENT settings. Background cleaning default is now 4.

Inaccurate lines in the first or last 10cm of a job

Limitation type: Permanent product limitation
Conditions when the problem occurs: There is an issue that occurs both during the first 10cm
or the last 10cm of the image where the horizontal lines can show some steps or
discontinuances (see below for an example).

18 HP Designjet T790, T1300, T2300 eMFP

Product Limitation Document

Note: A misalignment of up to 4 pixels is considered as normal with this type scanner

technology. The amount of misalignment depends on the scan resolution and paper type
used.
Cause of the problem: The cause of this issue is because the media is in an unstable state as
it enters into the scanner, this unstable state causes the media (while it is no held by the
rollers) to move in a direction which is not straight or regular. However, once the paper has
gone completely through the rollers of the scanner, the media becomes held by the roller and
this issue becomes solved. The same issue occurs once the media is leaving the scanner. This
is the reason why you can see the issue only during the first and last 10cm of the image.
Communication to the customer: The issue is usually improved after calibrating, but
sometimes the defect cannot be completely removed.
Products affected: T2300 eMFP

Part of the image is lost when scanning borderless originals

Limitation type: Temporary product limitation

Cause of the problem: Depending on the image background, the scanner may not detect the
paper edge if the original does not have a white border. Therefore it could detect part of the
image as if it was the paper border, missing the image that is located outside.

Communication to the customer: The available workarounds are the following:

1. Make sure that the paper edge is located at the left of the E-size mark.
2. Change the orientation of the job, it could be that a different orientation works better for
the image type you want to scan
3. Physical add a white border to the original with strips of paper.

HP Designjet T790, T1300, T2300 eMFP 19

Product Limitation Document

5. Use the option to Scan full width, available from firmware IG_02_05_00.0 onwards.

Note: A future firmware release will include a setting to scan the full scanner width without
looking for the paper edge. More information will be available in the next few months.

Small color differences in the copy background fitting with the adjacent CIS modules

Limitation type: Permanent product limitation

Conditions when the problem occurs: Scanning or copying originals with homogeneous color
in the background.
Cause of the problem: Due to the staggered CIS modules, the light incidence angle is
different leading in a small difference of color reproduction mainly in light colors.
Symptoms affecting the customer: Lower image quality for copies with light area fills.
Communication to the customer: This is a limitation of CIS technology and all competitors are
also affected. To avoid this problem, the recommended technology is CCD

Chapter 4: Driver limitations

The following limitations can be found:
• It is not possible to install a printer in a Windows Vista 32 client when it is installed on a
Windows Vista 64 sever
• HP does not provide any Unix or Linux specific software with the HP Designjet T Printer
series
• Preview not available in the driver like the previous versions in previous printers.
• Some characters in the Japanese driver might display incorrect.
• MAC OS 10.4 not supported
• Time to open the printer preferences is longer than in previous products
• It is not possible to select multiple copies from the driver.
It is not possible to share a driver in a Windows Vista workstation (using it as a server)
Limitation type: Permanent product limitation

Symptom seen by the customer:

If a driver is installed and shared in a Windows Vista workstation and a client PC (also with
Windows Vista) tries to install the shared driver (double-clicking it or through the Add Printer
Wizard). The user in the client would receive the message "Windows cannot connect to the
printer. Access is denied".
This happens because the default security policies in Windows Vista do not allow access to
one of the components in the driver, the port monitor. In order to grant the necessary
permissions to share the driver successfully, the following procedure needs to be followed:
1. Open the security policies of the client machine by typing "secpol.msc" in the RUN
prompt and then enable the two options shown in the picture below.
2. Try to connect to the printer shared on the server.

Product Limitation Document

HP does not provide specific Unix software with the HP Designjet T Printer series

Limitation type: Permanent product limitation

Symptoms affecting the customer:

HP does not provide a driver or SW solution specifically designed to print from Unix systems.
This does not mean, however, that Unix systems are not supported in the HP Designjet T
Printer series.

Communication to the customer:

Not having specific software to print from Unix does not mean that these systems cannot be
used. The following common printing scenarios will work with HP Designjet T Printer series:
• Most CAD applications will have the ability to export to HP-GL/2 format or will have
generic HP-GL/2 drivers. In those cases, the HP Designjet T Printer series will be able to
print, because the printers support HP-GL/2.
• In Dassault CATIA there are HP-GL/2 drivers that have been developed specifically to
support HP Designjet printers.
• It is possible to work with 3rd party plot management applications, such as ZEH Plot
Express, that support HP Designjet T Printer series.
• By using the printer’s Embedded Web Server1, it is possible to print files in the following
formats: HP-GL/2, Cals G4, TIFF, JPEG, PS and PDF.
• For PS printers, we provide a Linux driver, see http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-
web/index.html.
1
Only for T1300 and T2300
Note: Check specific languages supported by each specific model in the printer users guide

In context:

HP Designjet 800 and HP Designjet 1050:

HP included software in the box called ZEHRaster Plus that enabled the printer to print TIFF,
JPEG and Cals G4 from certain Unix and Linux distributions. This SW could be upgraded
with a license that enabled it to print CGM files as well (at a cost of $500).
Using the Embedded Web Server on the HP Designjet in T1300 and T2300 offers a superset
of the features that were included in ZEHRaster Plus (except for the possibility of upgrading to
CGM support).

Canon iPF 600 and iPF 700:

Canon offers similar software to us to print on Linux, but they do not offer any software for
Unix for Large Format printers.

Some characters in the Japanese driver might display incorrect

Limitation type: Temporary product limitation

Symptom seen by the customer:

If the user has deleted the font we are using internally for the Japanese driver some letters
can be incorrect. This is an expected behaviour; driver tries to substitute the font by another
one but the font we use as workaround has some limitations.

Communication to customers:
Install again the font from the OS DVD. New driver release will mitigate issue substituting the
font with a better workaround font.

Time to open the printer preferences is longer than in previous products
Limitation type: Permanent product limitation
Symptoms affecting the customer:
When trying to access the printer preferences or selecting the printer from the application, the
system seems to freeze for a some seconds.

HP Designjet T790, T1300, T2300 eMFP 23

Product Limitation Document

Communication to the customer:

This is an issue caused by the new driver’s architecture for the T2300, T1300 and T790.
Make sure you always have the latest version of the driver to minimize this issue, especially
when printing from Autocad or Adobe Photoshop.

In case of severe delays when selecting the printer, please make sure the bidirectional
communication from the printer is disabled by setting the “Show printer information and
alerts” to NO, or use the T770/T1200 driver instead.

In context:
The driver is slower than previous HP Designjet printers such as the T770/T1200.

It is not possible to select multiple copies from the driver.

Limitation type: Permanent product limitation

Symptoms affecting the customer:
There is no setting in the driver to select the number of copies that you want to print.
Communication to the customer:
The number of copies has been removed from the driver because most applications
include a setting in the Print menu to select the number of copies. The setting in the
application and the setting in the driver were conflicting and causing the printer to print
an unexpected number of copies. For simplicity, the setting has been removed from the
driver.

In context:
The T770/T1200 driver had this setting

Chapter 5: Limitations with Printer Utilities, EWS &

Driverless Printing
The following limitations can be found:
• The Print Preview does not show the effect of “Remove Top/Bottom” blank areas
• It is not possible to submit jobs that are bigger than the space that is left in the Hard Disk
even if the job is not checked to be stored in the printer.
• Printer does not reply to Web Service Discovery requests when IPv4 is not configured
• Embedded Web Server Notifications not working as expected

The print preview does not show the effect of “remove top/bottom blank areas”

Limitation type: Permanent product limitation

Symptom seen by the customer:

“Remove top/bottom blank areas” is selected in the driver, but the white areas are still shown
on the print preview. These blank areas are, however, not printed.

Communication to customers:
“Remove top/bottom blank areas” is processed in the last stage just before printing (when the
carriage detects that a swath is blank, it does not print it”. This is done to maximize the
efficiency of the printer. This means that by the time the print preview is generated, the
removal of the blank areas is not yet processed, and hence, blank areas are still shown in the
preview. This is an architectural limitation that cannot be overcome with the current
processing architecture. As a workaround, a warning message stating “Remove top/bottom
blank areas has been selected but the results are not reflected in the preview” will be shown.

It is not possible to submit jobs that are bigger than the space that is left in the Hard Disk
even if the job is not checked to be stored in the printer

Limitation type: Permanent product limitation

Symptom seen by the customer: When submitting a file through the EWS that is bigger than
the amount of Hard Disk that is free, a message stating that the job cannot be submitted
because the Hard Disk is full will be shown, even if the job had not been checked to be stored
in the printer.
This is due to the fact that when a job is submitted through the EWS, it is first stored in the
Job Storage partition and when it has been completely received it is sent to the job queue. It
is done like this to prevent problems in case the transmission was aborted in the web server.
The consequence is that if there is not enough space to store the job before sending it to the
queue, it will not be printed.

HP Designjet T790, T1300, T2300 eMFP 25

Product Limitation Document

Communication:
This is done by design. There must be enough free space in the hard disk in order to be able
to submit jobs correctly.

Proxy auto-config (PAC) not supported by the ePrinter/eMFP, only manual proxy supported

Limitation type: Permanent product limitation

Symptom seen by the customer:

Customer is not able to use Auto proxy to connect the printer to the Internet. Connectivity
Troubleshooting/Wizard fails.

Cause of the problem:

Modern web browsers implement several levels of automation; users can choose the level that
is appropriate to their needs. The following methods are commonly implemented:
Manual proxy selection: Specify a hostname and a port number to be used for all URLs. Most
browsers allow you to specify a list of domains (such as localhost) that will bypass this proxy.
This is the only way to set up a proxy to the printer.
Proxy auto-configuration (PAC): Specify the URL for a PAC file with a JavaScript function that
determines the appropriate proxy for each URL. This method is more suitable for laptop users
who need several different proxy configurations or complex corporate setups with many
different proxies. Not supported by printer.
Web Proxy Autodiscovery Protocol (WPAD): Let the browser guess the location of the PAC
file through DHCP and DNS lookups. Not supported by the printer.

Communication to the customer:

Job Preview from ePrint & Share library using touch screen not available/supported file

Limitation type: Permanent product limitation

Symptom seen by the customer:

When printing from ePrint & Share library, if user select print preview, preview might be not
available

Cause of the problem:

The root cause:

6. File has been generated with a very old version of ePrint & Share printing tool.
Previously, ePrint & Share was not correctly generating previews.
7. File is not supported by this workflow

Communication to the customer:

1. Use the latest Printing tool available in www.hp.com/go/eprintandshare to correctly
generate previews.
2. Only the following files are supported by this workflow: PDF files, HP-GL/2 files (but not
HP-GL), JPEG and TIFF
3. For non PostScript printers, PDF is also supported.

PDF format is the only format supported when scanning to ePrint & Share library from touch
screen

Limitation type: Permanent product limitation

Cause of the problem:

When scanning file to ePrint & Share library, only PDF format is supported, for all eMFPs
skus (PS and non-PS)

Communication to the customer:

If you try to change the extension, file will not readable.
If you need to use another file format, a workaround will be to use scan to USB, then use the

• Driverless printing does not work in Windows XP account without administrator rights
• Rotation setting in print from USB ignored when printing HP-GL/2 or PCL3GUI plots

Driverless printing does not work in Windows XP account without administrator rights.

Limitation type: Permanent product limitation

Conditions when the problem occurs: Using Windows XP without Administrator rights.

Cause of the problem: Windows access rights conflict

Symptoms affecting the Customer: Driverless Printing not working

Communication to the customer: Administration must install a driver for each user or upgrade
to Vista OS/7.

Rotation setting in print from USB ignored when printing HP-GL/2 or PCL3GUI plots.

Limitation type: Permanent product limitation

Conditions when the problem occurs:

In the print from USB workflow, if the user selects an HP-GL/2 or PCL3GUI plot and then
rotates it (90, 180, 270), the rotation settings have no effect. The job is printed without
rotation.
HP-GL/2 is unable to rotate, (it is able to rotate vector contents but not the raster inside).
PCL3GUI does not support rotation either.
Only when printing an HP-GL/2 or PCL3GUI jobs from print via the USB and selecting a
rotation. Note that Autorotation is not affected.

Cause of the problem: HP-GL/2 limitation

Communication to the customer: Autorotate

Chapter 9: Printing limitations from AutoCAD

The following limitations can be found:
• Windows Vista clients running AutoCAD 2007 cannot use drivers shared in a Windows
XP server
• The Adobe PostScript Driver is not recommended to use when printing from AutoCAD.

HP Designjet T790, T1300, T2300 eMFP 33

Product Limitation Document

Windows Vista clients running AutoCAD 2007 cannot use drivers shared with a Windows XP
server

Limitation type: Permanent product limitation

Symptoms affecting customers

Windows Vista clients running AutoCAD 2007 cannot use drivers shared with a Windows XP
server
This issue happens when the driver is shared on a print server with Windows XP and the
client PC is running Windows Vista. In this case, the shared driver will not be available from
the printing dialog in AutoCAD (so, it won’t be possible to print using the shared printer).

Communication to customers:
Autodesk states that AutoCAD 2007 does not support Windows Vista. The first release of
AutoCAD supporting Vista will be 2008. This issue is a consequence of the lack of support
for Vista in AutoCAD 2007, and there’s nothing that can be done in the driver to solve it.
Installing the driver locally in the Windows Vista PC may be an alternative, but since the
application does not support Vista, even if the driver becomes available in the printing
dialog, users are likely to experience printing issues.
The Adobe PostScript driver is not recommended when printing from AutoCAD.

Limitation type: Permanent product limitation

Symptoms affecting the customer:

• Margins incorrectly applied / clipping
• Worse minimum line width spec
• Worse differentiation of lines with similar widths
• Longer generation and processing times
• Usability issues selecting the plot orientation and rotation
In the HP Designjet T1300 PS, T2300 PS or any printer with PostScript as an accessory, there
are two drivers available for Windows: an HP-GL/2 driver and a PostScript driver. By default
the Software installer CD will install both, and so, two different drivers for the device will be
available in the Windows printer folder.

When printing from AutoCAD, we recommend always using the HP-GL/2 driver, since this is
an optimized driver for AutoCAD. The PS driver is not recommended because it could have
the issues seen above in the bullet list.
Also, it must be noted that using the PS driver from AutoCAD will NOT have better color than
the HP-GL/2 driver.
