1 Introduction
2.1 Indicators
The top front panel Green BATTERY ON LINE LED illuminates to indicate that the contactor is commanded to be
closed.
Red BATTERY OFF LINE LED indicates the contactor is commanded to be opened because the local disconnect
ON/OFF switch is OFF or remote disconnect input is applied.
Green CONTACTOR CLOSED indicator monitors the alarm contacts on the contactor and is illuminated any time
the contactor is closed.
Green POWER ON indicator illuminates when the power is present on the control circuit; i.e., Voltage on battery
or source and the internal key switch is ON.
Red REMOTE 1 illuminates to indicate the presence of a remote disconnect signal at the Remote 1 input to the
control PCB.
Red REMOTE 2 illuminates to indicate the presence of a remote disconnect signal at the Remote 2 input to the
control PCB.
Red FUSE FAIL LED illuminates when the indicator fuse (if equipped) blows as a result of the battery fuse
opening.
2.2.1 Alarms
Two alarm contacts, with jumpers for selecting N/O or N/C alarm condition, are extended to terminal blocks
located behind the unit’s front panel.
The alarms are provided for monitoring the status of the contactor, and fuse (if equipped), and change state if the
contactor is open for any reason or if the fuse (if equipped) is open.
2.3 Controls
2.3.1 Local
Located on the front of the panel is a pull and release locking toggle switch; provided to control the contactor for
battery on-line or battery off-line.
Located inside the panel, a key switch operates as a local lockout switch by controlling a relay circuit which
disconnects the power from the onboard control circuit to the rest of the PCB. This will remove the power from the
LED’s and the contactor coil. To ensure the safety of qualified personnel performing maintenance, the key switch
should be placed in the OFF position and the key removed to ensure the batteries are off-line.
2.3.2 Remote
The two remote disconnect inputs can be used to open the contactor thereby taking the batteries off-line. The
remote inputs can be connected to a DC power system controller/monitor to effect LVD control.
A remotely controlled emergency power off (EPO) switch performs the same function as the local lockout to
positively disconnect the battery in emergency conditions.
Verify that you have all the necessary parts per your order for proper assembly.
4.3 Preparation/Mounting
The Argus Fusible Battery Disconnect panel shipped from the factory is arranged for vertical wall mounting. With
some adjustment, the unit may be mounted in a 19” or 23” EIA relay rack. Mounting brackets accommodate both
1” or 1 3/4” spacing.
The panel should be mounted to the rack using at least four, #12 – 24 x 1/2" screws in each bracket. A suitable
size and type of screwdriver should be used to eliminate the possibility of slippage and scratching of the unit’s
exterior.
WARNING
Follow battery manufacturer’s safety recommendations when working around battery systems.
WARNING
Do not smoke or present an open flame when batteries (especially vented batteries) are on
charge. Batteries vent hydrogen gas when on charge, which creates an explosion hazard.
Batteries are hazardous to the environment and should be disposed of safely at a recycling facility. Consult the
battery manufacturer for recommended local authorized recyclers.
WARNING
Hazardous voltages are present at both the input and the output of power systems. Ensure that
input power and output power is removed before attempting work on the connections. Use a
voltmeter to verify the absence of voltage. Clearly mark the correct polarity of the battery leads
before commencing work on DC connections.
Refer to the previous (Installation) chapter for additional safety precautions.
