Pastor Mike Slaughter
As the Lead Pastor, Mike is the three-decade dreamer of Ginghamsburg
Church and the spiritual entrepreneur of ministry marketplace innovations.
His life-long passion to reach the lost and set the oppressed free has now made
him a tireless and leading advocate for the children, women and men of Darfur,
Sudan. The genocide in that country has been named by the U.N. as the worst
humanitarian crisis in the world today.
Workshop: Change the World: Recovering the Message
and Mission of Jesus
Opening Worship A challenge to all church leaders to look at the future of their congregations and
Plenary make tough but necessary choices, including: sending the church out into the
world, building disciples, multiplying your impact and stepping out in courage
instead of being satisfied with the status quo.
Rev. Dr. Eugene Blair
Eugene currently serves as the District Superintendent of the Flint
District in the DAC. Prior to that, he served as Director of African-
American Spiritual Formation and Congregational Development.
From 1994-2004, he served as the pastor of the newly formed Resurrection
United Methodist Church in Chicago and the Director for Congregational
Development for the Northern Illinois Conference.
Workshop: Spiritual Leadership in the Local Church
What is spiritual leadership? What is the central task of local church
leadership and how are they to approach that task?
Dr. Ron Crandall
For six years, Ron served as Director of Local Church Evangelism at the
United Methodist General Board of Discipleship. In 1983, he joined the
faculty of the E. Stanley Jones School of World Mission and Evangelism at
Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky. Currently, he serves as
the Sundo Kim Professor of Evangelism and Practical Theology, and Dean
of the E. Stanley Jones School of World Mission and Evangelism.
Workshop: ABIDE
Connecting the mystery of abiding in Jesus ( John 15) with the spiritual
hopes and strategic needs of tens of thousands of smaller United
Methodist Congregations. Come hear the story and learn the dynamics
of how churches, districts, and conferences all across the country are
“bearing much fruit” to the glory of God.

Pastor Jim Walker
Jim and Pastor Jeff Eddings serve at Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community, a church
plant on the south side of Pittsburgh that shares the story of God through drama
and the arts, as well as traditional forms of worship. Jim is a Full Ordained Elder
in the UMC; he has been a speaker at Emergent Worship Conferences. He is the
author of Dirty Word: The Vulgar, Offensive Languages of The Kingdom of God.
Workshop: The long, hard journey of sharing in
authentic, intimate, meaningful community together
Many churches and ministries are taking the easy road of turning to “bait and
switch” techniques such as IPhone giveaways and spectacle-based worship
Closing Worship experiences to draw people in. Is this what we’re really about? What if the hard
Plenary road of developing authentic community through relationship building was the
better road? How can we practice church in a way that draws people in,
but doesn’t compromise our values?
Rev. Dr. Sherry Parker
Sherry is the Lead Pastor at Brighton FUMC. She has a passion for
empowering the people of God for transformational ministry and believes
that this is possible in every congregation.
Workshop: Transforming Congregational Culture
Does the church need a new program or a new perspective? This is an
introduction to leading the church through cultural change toward being a
missional congregation. The workshop will include an overview of societal
change that makes transformation imperative.
Rev. Dr. Wayne Barrett
Wayne has been President and Executive Director of the United Methodist
Foundation of Michigan since 1982. To date, he has served over 800
congregations across the United States with programs and consultations in
planned giving, capital funding and stewardship development.
Workshop: Motivation for Giving
Learn how your local church can grow giving in a challenged economy.
Rev. Beth Bryant
Beth is a pastor’s daughter and ordained minister with 32 plus years of full-time
ministry with local church staffs; as a conference speaker, consultant, preacher,
teacher, worship leader and instrumentalist. Beth’s ministry focuses on seeing the
Body of Christ actively participate in worship services.
Workshop: Come Up Higher in Worship
See how to bring your heart before the Lord as an audience of “One” and then
to allow the overflow of that communion to bring the body of Christ into a
place of depth and intimacy in worship.
