SEMARANG GBU (Indonesia Power – Generation Business Unit)

Semarang Generation Business Unit is located in Central Java. It has 1,469 MW installed capacity and
consists of three types of power plant, they are the Steam Power Plant (PLTU) and the Combined cycle
Power Plant (PLTGU) and the Gas Turbine Power Plant (PLTG) .
The Combined Cycle Power Plant (PLTGU) consists of gas and steam generators. This type of power
plant utilizes leftover heat from the gas generator to heat up water into steam which subsequently be
used to rotate a steam turbine. The combined cycle technology renders the electricity generation more
efficient, because the leftover heat from the primary generator is used by the secondary generator to
generate even more electricity.
More than that, a gas-fueled generator is an environment-friendly. It conducts a near perfect
combustion process that, consequently, its level of carbon dioxide emission and other exhaust wastes
resulted are extremely low. Thus, this type of power generation efficiency goes hand in hand with the
care of the environment.
Meanwhile the PLTU or Steam Power Plant is operated by using natural gas and oil as its fuel.
Power utility is one strategic industry as an infrastructure motor to drive other industries in operation.
Therefore its contribution to the national development is significant

1. Tambak Lorok
PLTGU Tambaklorok consists of six gas turbines with individual capacity of 109.65 MW, two HRSG with
each capacity of 188.00 MW, two steam plants each plant with a capacity of 50 MW, and a steam power
plant with a capacity of 200 MW. Of the eleven existing plant, if operating optimally, Tambaklorok is
capable of generating 1300 MW electricity.

3. Sunyaragi GPP
Sunyaragi gas power plant located in the city of Cirebon, near the provinces border of West Java and
Central Java. The plant has four units of gas turbines and operating since 1976. Each unit has an installed
capacity of 20 MW.
