2. (Use Elmo) Begin reading The Crayon Box That Talked. Ask and discuss over questions.
Why did the crayons not get along in the beginning?
How did they change to work together?
What are some ways of how we can work together despite our differences?
3. Hand out crayon worksheets. Have the students illustrate with crayons/markers/coloring pencils of how
they can work together with a friend.
4. 2nd page of worksheet have the students write three full sentences with the teachers assistance about their
illustrations.
5. Once writing is done have two helpers pass out plastic bowls to each student and partner. In each bowl
place a handful of old crayons that soaked overnight. The students with their partners will help each
other peel the wrappings off the crayons.
7. During specials place silicone molds, covered, in the microwave and melt crayons (3-4 min). Once fully
melted place in refrigerator for 30 minutes. Take out and present to students what was accomplished by
working together.
Modifications:
If possible, assign a Grandma to assist with those struggling on the writing.
Assessment:
The teacher will observe and listen to the students comments about their fellow students.
The teacher will observe the students behaviors towards their fellow classmates while working together.
