Lesson #2
March 5, 2017
STAGE 1: Desired Results

Established Goals (For the unit)

The overall goal for this unit is ...

 That students can communicate about events in the past.
 That students can talk about to whom or for whom something takes place.
 That students see the similarities and differences between shopping practices in
various Hispanic countries.

It sets students up with the skills to ...

 Form the preterit.
 Use indirect object pronouns.
 Talk about shopping and clothing.

Acquisition of Skills (For the lesson)

Students will know… Students will be able to…

(Content knowledge: What facts and basic concepts (Process knowledge: Usually includes words like:
should students know and be able to recall?) explain, interpret, compare, contrast,
distinguish, describe)

● How we express that something happens to ● Distinguish and explain the difference
someone or for someone. between a direct object and an indirect
● That there are necessary words (pronouns) object.
that indicate to whom or for whom ● Communicate to whom or for whom
something takes place. something takes place.
● What those pronouns are and where they ● Form sentences with indirect objects and
go in a sentence. their pronouns.
● A few verbs in which there is often
someone that is indirectly acted upon by
the verb.

Target standards:

STAGE 2: Evidence

Assessment Evidence
Performance Task:
 Interview worksheet
Other evidence (quiz, reflections, observations)
 Reflection: Write two sentences with an indirect object using two different indirect
object pronouns. What is one takeaway? What is one thing you’re still confused
about?

STAGE 3: Learning Plan

Daily Learning Activities and Notes

1) “La ratita presumida.” Read the story aloud to the class, slowly. Play the video (no
sound) so that they can follow along with the story. Ask comprehension questions
after the first reading. Read it through the second time, being deliberate about saying
the lines I want to highlight slowly and clearly. Project the lines that I’m wondering
about on board. Ask them to break apart the sentence.
2) Think/pair/share: What’s the difference between WHAT the mouse says/asks and to
whom she speaks? How can we see both of these pieces in these sentences?
3) As a group, come up with a “rule” about the indirect objects in the sentence. I’ll fill in
the object pronouns not seen in the story.
4) Sample questions for them to try individually. First they have to identify whether there
is an indirect object in the sentence in English. They then have to fill in the proper
indirect object pronoun in Spanish sentences that are using many of the verbs on the
bottom of page 223.
5) Interviews: Each person has a worksheet with various questions. They have to
wander around the room and ask their classmates the questions (a new classmate for
each new question). They write down the answers on their sheet. See sheet below.
6) If there’s more time (unlikely), 6-18 on page 224.
7) Exit ticket reflection: What are two things that you do for someone else? What is one
takeaway? What is one thing you’re still confused about?
