questionable OU secondary, but I don’t think the FSU ‘D’ can keep the Sooners out of the end zone. At home, OU controls FSU.

absent from this game, I would’ve thought Penn State had a chance. However, now that game week is here, I think Penn State
could get exposed. Bolden has a tremendous future in front of him, but this won’t be his day against a motivated ‘Bama ‘D’

Five days. That’s all these two teams get in
preparation for one another which could make this
one of the more compelling games of the weekend,
or a sloppy, mistake filled contest. Auburn may have
found a quarterback - Cam Newton - a big
gunslinger who is the perfect fit for Gus Malzahn’s
offense. Furthermore, Newton has some help in the
run game with the crew of backs behind him,
including true freshman Michael Dyer. However,
UTEP VS. HOUSTON

You know what they say about Paybacks, right?
Well, if the Houston Cougars are worth their salt,
we’ll all find out on Friday night. In last year’s
contest, Houston was coming off of two huge wins
over Big 12 foes when it traveled to UTEP and was
rolled. And, by rolled, I mean massacred. RB
Donald Buckram ran for 262 yards on 32 carries as
the Miners obliterated the 2009 Cougars defense.
That was then and, well, we’ll all find out if anything
has changed, truly changed, for the Cougars
MICHIGAN VS. NOTRE DAME

Although this rivalry game had a fantastic ending
last year, this year’s matchup may “feel” like a true
Michigan/Notre Dame rivalry with the way the
Wolverines thumped U Conn at home behind the
sweet untied feet of QB Denard Robinson. If Notre
Dame fans were feeling overconfident, #16 can
bring them right back down to earth. What worries
me most for the Irish is that the defense is still a
work in progress and the slightest opening can be
exploited for huge gains by Robinson and the RBs.
GEORGIA VS. SOUTH CAROLINA
September 11, 2010 - SEC Network 11 am CST
When the AJ Green news came down this week, it
was easy to take South Carolina hook, line and
sinker. Although the game is in Columbia, the lack
of an All-American at receiver makes South Carolina
a much easier pick, right? Right?!? Maybe, but I
have major concerns about the Gamecocks going
into this game. First of all, the offense made great
strides against Southern Miss, but now it’s facing a
new 3-4 scheme that doesn’t have a lot on film to
show South Carolina’s offensive staff.
Vegas says: Auburn -2.5/55
this is a different Mississippi State program.
Defensively, the Bulldogs are talented on the edges,
led by DE Pernell McPhee and the ability of the
Bulldog defensive line to fill gaps and not allow
Newton and the Auburn running backs to slice
those gaps and pick up huge chunks of yards.
Ultimately, Auburn will pick up those yards, keep
the chains moving and win one in Starkville.
PREDICTION: Auburn - 34 vs. Miss. St - 30
Vegas says: Houston -20/73.5
As of the time of this writing, Buckram is
questionable, but it may not matter. The Cougars
have proven, under Kevin Sumlin, that they don’t
take kindly to you beating them - they’ll make you
pay the next year. UTEP wasn’t tested on Saturday
and neither was Houston, but UTEP needed to
“see” the game at a more rapid rate to prepare for
the Cougars. They didn’t. QB Case Keenum will
throw for 500+ and 4 TDs in a big win.
PREDICTION: Houston - 52 vs. UTEP - 24
Vegas says: Notre Dame -4/52
The Irish will need to rely on the offense to control
the clock, move the chains and put pressure on
Michigan to score touchdowns each time down the
field. The Irish must win first and second down and
force Robinson into converting third and long
situations throughout the day. If Notre Dame
misses tackles in space, it might be a long day. But,
ND wil l find balance on offense and limit
Robinson’s ability to run around and make plays.
PREDICTION: ND - 28 vs. Michigan - 21
Vegas says: South Carolina -3/49
Georgia OLB Justin Houston, who had a sack last
week against ULL, has the speed to really frustrate
the South Carolina tackles. Then, throw in the fact
that he may be moving all around the formation, I’m
not confident that South Carolina can “find” him
and effectively block him. Offensively, the loss of
Green forces QB Aaron Murray to spread the
wealth and look up former HS teammate tight end
Orson Charles, which is a blessing in disguise.
PREDICTION: Georgia - 23 vs. S. Carolina - 17

College Football News and Notes

Georgia’s AJ Green has been suspended for
three games by the NCAA for selling his
Independence Bowl jersey to a person deemed
by the NCAA to be an agent. It’ll cost him
appearances against South Carolina, Arkansas
and Mississippi State. Sure, the Florida game is
the most high profile on UGA’s schedule, but
these three might be the most important.
Georgia will appeal the verdict.
Boise State’s Kellen Moore was named
Davey O’Brien Award Quarterback of the
Week. He didn’t pile up massive amounts of
y a r d a g e , b u t h e d i d t h r o w t h r e e ke y
touchdowns in Boise State’s most important
regular season win in quite some time.
Speaking of quarterbacks, MTSU QB
Dwight Dasher continues to sit out after
having taken money from an 80-year old
veteran in a VA hospital. His absence cost
MTSU a very attainable win over a BCS
program, Minnesota, in the opener.
Texas has decided on Tre Newton as its
starting running back this week against
Wyoming.
