Lab 1
Melting

Date: Monday, February 5th 2018


Supervisor: Tori
Lead Teacher: Amber MacPherson 1st Lesson

Ideas to be Emphasized and Overall Developmental Focus:


1. When some solid melts it, like an ice cube, it changes to a liquid.
2. When you touch ice, it may stick on your hands.
3. Today the activities will have a focus on sharing this will helps children build social skills,
this is developmentally appropriate for children ages 4 to 5 years old.

OPENING CIRCLE 8:20 – 8:35 a.m.


Activity Name Description Materials
Book: Big Book I will read From Head to Toe by Eric Carle and From head to Toe by Eric

wax.”

I will wait for a few children to answer the
question.
“Let’s see what happen.”
When I say this, I will melt the bowl of ice cubes, I
will use a glass container and hold it up high on

blocks so all the children can see it, with a hair
dryer and use the wax Melter as well, I will place
a towel underneath so that the wax doesn’t get
on the carpet.
As we go into the next ITBE I will sing this song

2. When you touch I will show the children a bowl filled with ice Ice Cubes (22)

their seats.

we don’t get all messy.”

After the children answer these questions I will go
into teaching my ITBE.
“When we touch ice, your skin can feel sticky.”
“This is happening because the ice is taking all
the heat and moisture from your hands.”
“Sometimes if it is cold outside our hands can
feel sticky when we touch a car door if we don’t
have our gloves on.”
