A Crane Collapsed Through The Ceiling of The Masjidil Haram

On 11 September 2015, a crawler crane toppled over onto the Masjid al-Haram, the
Grand Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. 111 people were killed and 394 injured. The city was

Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud vowed that the accident will be investigated and the results will be

million Saudi riyal (Dh979,445; US$266,679) compensation to the families of the pilgrims

remaining period of Hajj and return back to their country.

According to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), one million riyals will also be given to each
injured whose injury resulted in permanent disability. While half a million riyals will be given
to each other injured pilgrim adjacent to the mosque being struck by lightning and authorities
have said that winds in the area were gusting to 83 km/h.
