The term ‘bullying’ is often closely related to school.

It encompasses the act of teasing,

taunting, intimidating and physical and mental abuse. On June 10 2017, the nation was hit
with the news of an 18-year-old teenager being brain dead and later dies from bullying (Kaur,
2017). This incident is the indicator that bullying is a serious crime and should not be taken
lightly by all individuals. Some might argue that there is a reducing trend on the cases of
bullying in school (New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd, 2017), but bullying is still prevalent in
schools and become a major concern in parents when sending their children to school. Hence,
I agree that bullying is an issue that is very difficult to be eliminated in school.

One such reason is due to the self-esteem and pride of the victims which are very high,
especially in middle schoolers. Thus, if the bullying is not too serious these students will just
bear the bullying silently. These bullying victims are worried if words get out that they needed
help from the teachers and parents on these ‘small matters’, they will lose their face in school
and be known as a weakling. Thus, the bullying will keep on occurring for a long period of time
as the victim does not do anything to curb the bullying. Plus, without parents and teachers
being informed of the bullying, no action can be taken to help the child as the child himself
does not want to be pitied upon. This will cause the bully to have free reign in his bullying
without any consequences. As time goes on, the bullying will become increasingly serious and
will affect the student’s learning, social life and personality. In a rare case, the bullying may
lead to the student committing suicide due to sheer stress from the bullying. One such incident
was on February 2014 where a 13-year-old boy drunk a bottle of insecticide due to the bullying
that he had endured (Cheng, 2014). By keeping this issue from his mother, the bullying had
turned too serious. Hence, students who does not reach out to other when he is being bullied
is one of the reasons it is difficult to eradicate bullying in schools.

In addition to that, as mentioned by Yahaya (n.d), a school bully is not initially born as
bully. But, that does not mean that the parents who give birth to a child who become a bully in
the future is innocent. As parents are the first educator for their children, a parents’ guidance
are crucial for the development of personality of their children before they go into school.
Hence, another reason bullying is difficult to stop is due by parents’ incompetence in providing
moral guidance to their child before the age where they go into school. For instance, a parents
who works for long hours and does not spend much time in keeping their child in check may
cause their child to develop his negative personality. This is because a parent’s care, love and
attention is crucial for the development of the child’s loving personality. The lack of said
parents’ supervision may cause the child to be more susceptible to be influenced by violence
without their parents telling them it is wrong to hurt others. Plus, some parents even think their
child behaves well is school even though he is a bully at school. This shows that parents’
inattentiveness in their child’s personality and morality development contributes to the causes
of bullying to be unstoppable in school.

More importantly, in a situation where bullying

1. Those who are strong will bully the weak. Parents encourage the child to do so to survival
in the current society

2. By standers are ignoring the bullying they are witnessing.
