Help

Help for OpenQN.XLS

1. From the Main Screen select the START button (this will take you to the
OpenQN worksheet).
2. Enter the number of queues and number of classes for your model.
3. Enter the arrival rates per class starting at column C for class 1.
4. Click on the INITIALIZE button.
5. Enter the service demands where indicated.
6. Adjust the Type column according to the type of resource. The default type

is LI for Load Independent resource. Use D for Delay resource and MPn
for a queue with 'n' resources. For example, to model a 4-processor queue,
use MP4.
7. Click on the SOLVE button to solve the model.
8. Model results are stored in the following worksheets:
Utilizations: utilizations per queue per class and total queue utilization.
QueueLengths: average queue length per queue and per class
and average queue length per queue over all classes.
ResidenceTimes: average residence time per queue per class and
average response time (row marked Total) per class.

Tips:
a. All input parameters should use compatible units (e.g., seconds for
service demands and tps for arrival rates). The results are given in
the units compatible with the input parameters.
b. Do not change the location of any of the cells. This may render your
workbook unusable or generate incorrect results.
c. Always work on a copy of the original workbook provided with the book.
