Saraswati Global Ltd. is engaged in manufacturing and export of superior quality Hand knotted
and hand tufted wool,wool silk,pure silk and contemporary rugs and carpets since 1986.It is
established in India’s famous Pink city Jaipur. Saraswati Global Ltd. is among the very few
companies in India which has in house production facilities including Spinning of Yarn, Wool
Dyeing, Designing, Weaving and Finishing etc.

Child labour free

NO CHILD LABOUR –Since 1986

The Indian carpet industry, with a large and lucrative overseas market, is witnessing a decline in
the use of child labour, primarily because of “social labeling” and non-tariff barriers imposed on
them, says a recent study commissioned by the International Labour Organization (ILO).

Contrary to some prevalent myths, children are not employed as weavers either because they
have nimble fingers or because they are paid less than adults. Children are employed they have
parents are teaching them skills which are perfected only after a considerable period of time and
which are not as easily performed by children. Compensation in the carpet industry is on the
'piece rate system' and not on the basis of hours. The government of India has taken significant
steps towards the elimination of child labour. The Constitution of Indian Prohibits the
employment of any child under the age of 14 years in factories, mines, or other hazardous and
non-hazardous employment. India's child labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act of 1986
strictly regulates conditions in industries where children are still permitted to be employed and
has established substantial penalties for violators, including fines and imprisonment. Saraswati
Global Ltd. is engaged in manufacturing and export of superior quality Hand knotted and hand
tufted wool, wool silk, pure silk and contemporary rugs and carpets since 1986 without involving
children. Many weavers can not provide formal type of education to their children as there are
not enough resources to provide schooling, as a result of which most parents make their children
to help them work in factories or have odd jobs. We strictly discourage this. We have taken
several measures for the overall Upliftment of the weavers and their families, Skill improvement
training, etc. thereby they can provide their kids education and preventing child labor. We
always favor compulsory basic education for all children. Every worker in our company is
considered a family member and hence his growth is important for us. The weavers are
encouraged to give their children proper education. For this we provide them with all the
necessary facilities. With provisions of regular work, better pay, proper working condition,
health care etc., We make them self sufficient in such a way that they can afford a qualitative
standard of living, can easily take care of their families and provide basic education to the
children. We also motivate to womenfolk to work in our looms so that they can also support the
family.

we also have own non profit social organization, Saraswati Global Ltd., to take proper care of the
children and weavers. We make it a point that all weavers working with us must have their kids
have basic education.

PRODUCTION PROCESS The process of making knotted carpets is long and tedious.
Sheep are washed in spring before cutting the wool. They are then shorn and the wool after
being re washed is converted to yarn. For a silk carpet, the silk fiber is converted to yarn.
The yarn is finally dyed in required colors.

9. WEAVING- The loom gives shape to the carpet-weaver’s creative expressions.

» The wrap threads are stretched on the loom vertically.

» Each pile is knotted manually to the wrap threads following the design

» The weft thread is inserted when a row of knots is completed.

» After knotting the whole carpet, the pile is shorn to the required length.

» The carpet is finally washed or treated with chemicals as and when requires.

Quality

The quality of a rug is judged by its density. The more the number of knots per square inch,
better the quality. Dense carpets are more durable and have finer and more detailed
patterns. A very good quality knotted rug may have 350 to 1000 knots per square inch
depending upon the material.

11. FINISHING PROCESS : Finishing is a meticulous process which requires skillful

craftsmanship. For zero defect in pieces , quality is being checked minutely at every step.
a. THUKAI –To correct the border, design; Increase or reduce the size.

c. RAW CLIPPING-First of all check the Pile ,in a unfinish piece pile are not similar.
Therefore according to pile and quality use the raw clipping.
d. BIRAI- Berai to make it even
e.WASHING- Washing of a carpet is done to bring sheen and luster, therefore, it is as
important as coloring, designing and weaving. this is the final stage of carpet weaving
and hence requires a lot of careful handling. Washing is done with water mixed with
soap, bleaching powder and other natural chemicals. After washing, the carpet is kept
in the sunlight for drying
