EXPRESSION OF INTEREST FOR OPERATING AYURVEDA CENTRE AT


KTDC RESORT LOCATED AT THANNERMUKKOM, ALAPPUZHA

The Kerala Tourism Development Corporation Limited (KTDC), the largest hotel chain

in Kerala, propose to set up a state-of-the-art Ayurvedic Centre to provide therapeutic and

rejuvenation treatments to guests at its backwater resort located at Thannermukkom,

Alappuzha in the State of Kerala. Apart from authentic Ayurvedic treatments, this Centre

is intended to provide other indigenous medical services like Siddha treatment also. For

operating the Centre requisite facilities are available in the resort. KTDC invites

Expression of Interest from medical service providers who meet the criteria described

below.

The proposed Centre seeks to provide authentic treatment for such

diseases/disorders which could be treated in a resort and should become the

benchmarking institution with regard to the operation of indigenous medical tourism

activity. Service providers who have experience in running hospitals/medical colleges

and those who have experience in providing treatment to foreign clientele, preferably

Europeans, would be given preference.

The KTDC Backwater Resort at Thannermukkom is proposed to be positioned as

a premium Ayurvedic Backwater Resort which offers popular traditional medical services
of Kerala. The resort have 37 rooms overlooking the backwaters, which is adjacent to the

Thaneermukkom bund and having a conference hall, water sports, boating facility etc.

KTDC propose to operate this Centre through reputed Kerala based Ayurveda

service providers having the experience in running Ayurvedic centers and other

indigenous medical treatment services like Siddha for at least five years, who are capable

of providing authentic therapeutic treatments, ensuring the highest standard of hygiene

acceptable to the high-end European leisure/treatment seeking travellers. They should

have the capability to reach the European markets who opt for various authentic

Ayurvedic and indigenous treatments like Siddha. The income on the Ayurveda and other

indigenous medical packages/treatments will be shared between KTDC and the selected

service provider on a fifty-fifty basis. The share of KTDC on the charges of medicines

supplied to the in-house guest or those who procure from the property would be 10%.

KTDC would provide rooms in the above resort at concessional/ special rates for the

clients who are channelized by the service provider. The period of contract would be

initially for a period of three years, which can be extended on mutual acceptance.

The selected medical service provider shall be primarily responsible for

formulating various treatment packages/services in the resort with the concurrence of

KTDC and also for marketing of such medical services (treatment/rejuvenation therapies)

in Europe especially in Germany, UK, Spain, France, Italy etc and also in USA through

their own channels. KTDC will also undertake all marketing efforts through its all

mediums and channels.

Interested parties are requested to submit their ‘Expression of Interest’ in the

format appended herewith along with the necessary documents as listed. The EoI shall be
liable for rejection in the absence of requisite supporting documents against each of the

applicable requirements. The proposals would be evaluated on the basis of the eligibility

criteria and interested party’s experience in the relevant areas mentioned above.

Evaluation of the submitted EoIs falls under the sole discretion of KTDC, which may

choose to apply whatever conditions it deems appropriate during the evaluation.

KTDC have proposals to operate a similar centre in its premium jungle resort

‘Aranya Nivas, located inside Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary at Thekkady, having 30 rooms,

with scope for extending the services to the guests staying at two nearby KTDC resorts

(Lake Palace Heritage Hotel (6 rooms) and Periyar House (43 rooms).

KTDC has another proposal to operate the ayurveda centre in the Bolgatty Island, Kochi

which has Bolgatty Palace (A luxury heritage hotel) which has 4 rooms, Bolgatty Island

Resort with 30 rooms and Marina House with 24 room Those who selected for

Thannermukkom Resort would be considered for Aranya Nivas, Thekkady and Bolgatty

Island Resort Kochi also on the same terms and conditions.

Those who are interested may submit their EOI in the prescribed format in sealed

covers superscribing “Expression of Interest for operating Ayurveda Centre”, in the

following address on or before 15th February 2010.
