Learning Objective 1.1 Understanding Waves

A student is able to:


1. Describe what is meant by wave motion.
2. Recognise that waves transfer energy without transferring matter.
Learning Outcomes 3. Compare transverse and longitudinal waves and give examples of each.
4. State what is meant by a wavefront.
5. State the direction of propagation of waves in relation to wavefronts
6. Define amplitude, period, frequency, wavelength and wave speed

Introduction Teacher displays a video showing tsunami.


Content 1. Teacher explain wave motion by using pendulum and spring-load set
2. Teacher explain wave how waves transfer energy without transferring matter by
using aquarium example
Learning Activities 3. Students conduct activity using slinky spring to compare transverse and longitudinal
waves and list out the examples
4. Students draw wavefront and label the direction of propagation of waves
Summary 1. Students solve two structures questions shown in power point presentation
2. Students able to state 4 learning outcomes above in their own sentences
