Revision 2008.1
Welcome to StealthOne 2
Installing StealthOne 4
StealthOne Initial Startup 7
Since you are the proud owner of a Valentine One® radar locator you are already
aware that the Valentine One® is the most advanced radar locator available. Your
BMW is also one of the most advanced automobiles available. StealthOne
integrates the best of these two worlds.
As good as the Valentine One® is there are areas in which it can be improved. For
example when there is an alert it can be difficult to quickly determine the radar
direction, band, strength, and bogey count by just glancing at the Valentine One®
display because there is so much information displayed to such a small area. The
Valentine One® Concealed Display Kit helps to mitigate this problem by moving the
display closer to the user’s eyes, but it can be difficult to locate the display to
achieve a clean integrated look without a lot of customization.
StealthOne solves these deficiencies by providing the tightest integration possible
with your BMW and the Valentine One®, and by displaying the information from the
Valentine One® in a concise and easy to read format. Also, StealthOne enables you
to control the muting and changing of the Valentine One® modes without removing
your hands from the steering wheel.
You can currently use StealthOne with any of these BMW models:
• 7-Series (E38)
• 5-Series (E39)
• X5 (E53)
• 3-Series (E46)
• Z4 (E85)
• MINI
IMPORTANT: Your BMW owner’s manual specifically states that the installation of
non-BMW approved accessories such as radios, radar detectors,
telephones, etc. may cause damage to the vehicle, affect the
vehicles safety, interfere with the electrical system of the vehicle or
affect the validity of the BMW Limited Warranty. StealthOne is not
an approved BMW accessory.
- For the E38, E39 or E53 you must have one or more of the following:
Instrument cluster (IKE) with the 20 character LCD display, Multi-
Information Display (MID), or Navigation (NAV).
- For the E46 or E85 you must have either the BMW Business radio (RAD)
or Navigation (NAV). StealthOne data can not be displayed on the
Instrument Cluster for these models.
- For the MINI you must have the Navigation (NAV) option.
To Install StealthOne:
1. Select an appropriate location to install your Valentine One® using any of the
methods described in the Valentine One® owner’s manual. We recommend that
you use the direct wire power adapter provided with your Valentine One® and
tap into a switched 12v wire in the overhead console. This will allow you to
place the Valentine One® at the top of the front windshield, which will give it
the best unobstructed front and rear view.
Note: When mounted, Valentine One® must have an unobstructed view. It
cannot be mounted behind the windshield wipers.
2. Plug one end of the 2 Ft. RJ-11 modular Power Cable into the Valentine One®
Accessory (ACC) port using Valentine One®’s direct wire power adapter or the
cigarette lighter adapter, and then plug the other end of the Power Cable into
the StealthOne “V1 ACC” module port.
3. Plug the end of the RJ-11 modular Interface Cable that has the I-BUS wire
attached to it into the StealthOne I-BUS/AUX module port. Do not connect the
other modular plug to anything, but instead let the wire hang loose and locate
it in a convenient location. This modular plug will be used for in car
programming of the StealthOne with software updates and future options.
IMPORTANT: The installation procedure varies for each of the supported BMW
models. Please refer to our website, www.stealth-one.com, for
more detailed installation instructions for your BMW model. If you
are unfamiliar with automotive electrical systems, see a mechanic
or car-stereo installer. Some knowledge of automotive electrical
systems and of interior-trim removal is necessary to do it yourself.
After you have installed both the Valentine One® and StealthOne, you must
configure the StealthOne for your car model. When you first apply power to
StealthOne it will enter setup mode and ask you to select your car model. Follow
the directions below to activate your StealthOne.
1. Turn the ignition key until power is applied to the Valentine One® and
StealthOne. You will notice that the Valentine One® display is now dark,
indicating that it is in stealth mode.
2. Before you continue you must turn off the radio. The Forward and the
Reverse buttons on the steering wheel are used to configure the
StealthOne Settings, therefore leaving the radio on may interfere with the
StealthOne setup.
3. After approximately 10 seconds after power is turned on, StealthOne will enter
setup mode:
Followed by:
4. Using the steering wheel press the Forward button to select your BMW
model: E46 - 3 Series, E85 - Z4, E38 - 7 Series, E39 - 5 Series, E53 - X5, or
MINI.
Tip: Forward button is used to change the value of a setup option. The
Reverse button is used to move to the next option.
5. Once you have selected the correct BMW model, press the Reverse once so
that “Exit >>>” is displayed:
How it works: The StealthOne uses the Valentine One® Accessory Port to receive
radar information, interprets this data, and then sends this information over the
vehicle’s I-BUS or K-BUS so that it can be displayed in an easy to understand
format on your BMW’s display. The following displays are supported by StealthOne.
7-Series (E38), 5-Series (E39), X5 (E53), 3-Series (E46), and MINI Navigation Display
When there is no active alert StealthOne will not display any information on any of
the BMW displays. When you receive an alert, StealthOne interprets this data and
displays it on the BMW display you have selected. Once the alert has passed,
StealthOne will briefly display the current Valentine One® mode such as “V1 Mode
A” and then clears the display after a few seconds.
Your display selections and viewing options will vary depending on the BMW model
you have. For example, some vehicles do not have the navigation screen, or the
LCD display in the instrument cluster. Also, the number and type of characters
allowed in each type of display will vary. See Chapter 3 Configuring StealthOne for
a detailed description of the different display modes.
Example: Before you installed StealthOne, when you would receive an alert on
your Valentine One® it would look something like this:
Now that you have StealthOne installed the Valentine One® does not light up when
you receive an alert because it is in stealth mode, which is the same behavior as if
you installed the Valentine One® Concealed Display option. StealthOne will now
show the radar information on your BMW’s display similar to below:
A feature of StealthOne is that you can use your BMW’s steering wheel buttons to
control the muting and to change modes of the Valentine One®. This can be very
convenient if your Valentine One® is located in a hard to reach area.
How do I mute the Valentine One®? You can use buttons on the steering wheel
to mute the Valentine One . By pressing the volume
®
and then the volume
buttons in quick succession, StealthOne will mute the Valentine One® if there is
currently an active audio alert. This has the same effect as if you quickly pressed
the knob on the front of the Valentine One®.
If your BMW does not have the integrated BMW phone, Bluetooth phone module, or
BMW Assist you can also press and release the phone button to mute the Valentine
One® when there is an active alert.
How do I switch between the different Valentine One® modes? If your BMW
does not have the integrated BMW phone, Bluetooth phone module, or BMW Assist
you can use the phone button to change the mode of the Valentine One®. Press
and hold the phone button until you see the mode change on your BMW display.
The new mode will be displayed for a few seconds and then the display will be
cleared.

When deciding in which location you would like to display radar information (on a
BMW Instrument Cluster LCD Display, MID radio panel display, or a GPS Navigation
Screen), you should keep the following guidelines and display limitations in mind.
The more characters available to StealthOne to display information will result in an
easier to read display.
Since the IKE and MID have the most characters available for displaying radar
information most users will prefer these displays to the radio or the navigation
screen.
For the BMW 7-Series (E38), 5-series (E39) or X5 (E53) you can configure
StealthOne to display on your car’s instrument cluster (IKE). StealthOne only works
with Instrument clusters that have the 20 segment LCD Display.
The instrument cluster can display information in any of the following modes.

If your BMW has the Navigation option you can configure StealthOne to display on
your car’s Navigation Display.
When the Navigation display is configured for split screen mode StealthOne will
display the radar bands above the radar direction, bogey count and radar strength.
The NAV can display information in any of the following modes. Both Modes 1 and 2
display data on the NAV screen in the same format, but they act differently when a
radar alert is received.
Mode Description
1 Mode 1 is used when you do not want the radar alert to cause the
display to switch away from the Navigation map display. When using
this mode you will not see the radar information on the Navigation
display unless you have the radio screen displayed. This mode is useful
if you are using the map in an area where there can be many alerts and
you do not want the display to be switching back and forth between the
radio screen and the map.
2 For Mode 2, if you have the map displayed and alert is received,
StealthOne will switch the display away from the map for the duration
of the alert, and then returns to the map display a few seconds after
the alert has ended.
1. From the StealthOne Setup menu, press the Reverse button until the
Navigation Display Mode Setting is shown:
2. If desired, press the Forward button to change the NAV display mode.

Format Description
1 NAV display format “1” displays the radar information as show below.
Tip: Some NAV displays will switch back and forth between large and
small fonts when using NAV Format 1 depending on what is being
displayed. This can cause the display to jump around when there
are multiple radar contacts. Using display format “2” will reduce
the chance of this happening since it will be displayed by the NAV
Screen only using large fonts.
1. From the StealthOne Setup menu, press the Reverse button until the
Navigation Display Mode Setting is shown:
2. If desired, press the Forward button to change the NAV display format.
The steering wheel can be used to control the muting and to change the mode of

NOTE: If “N/A” is displayed then StealthOne has detected that you have one
of the BMW phone options installed in your car. You will not be able to
use the phone button to control the Valentine One®.
3. To exit from StealthOne Setup scroll down using the Reverse button until
you see the “Exit >>>” and then press the Forward button.
Instead of flashing the strongest radar signal the "Optimize Display" mode uses
upper case letters to indicate the strongest signal and lower case for the weaker
ones. This option is intended for people who prefer non-flashing direction and radar
bands.
For example if you have Optimized Display on and you get an alert where the front
has the strongest radar contact and “Ka” is the strongest band, StealthOne will
display:
Note: Since there are no upper and lower case arrow characters, if you are using
arrows to display radar direction you will not know which direction is
strongest if you turn on "Optimize Display".
4. From the StealthOne Setup menu, press the Reverse button until the
following is displayed:
6. To exit from StealthOne Setup scroll down using the Reverse button until
you see the “Exit >>>” and then press the Forward button.
One of the annoying “features” of the BMW Navigation Display is having to press the

3. To exit from StealthOne Setup scroll down using the Reverse button until
you see the “Exit >>>” and then press the Forward button.
The Auto-Mute feature will automatically mute the V1 alert if the vehicle speed falls
below a user selectable speed limit. StealthOne receives information about your
vehicle speed from your BMW approximately every second. If the vehicle’s speed
is below the speed limit set by the user and there is a V1 alert, it will automatically
press the mute button. The V1 will beep once before it is muted.
1. From the StealthOne Setup menu, press the Reverse button until the
following is displayed:
3. To Exit from the StealthOne Setup scroll down using the Reverse button
until you see the “Exit >>>” and then press the Forward button.
You may want to adjust the Auto-Mute speed limit to fine tune it for the particular
area you are driving in. The speed limit can be adjusted in two MPH increments. To
adjust the speed limit follow the steps below:
1. From the StealthOne Setup menu, press the Reverse button until the
following is displayed:
2. Use the Forward button to increase the speed limit value. When it
reaches the maximum value of 98 MPH it will roll over back to 0.
3. To exit from the StealthOne Setup scroll down using the Reverse button
until you see the “Exit >>>” and then press the Forward button.
If you encounter any problems using StealthOne, refer to the information below. If
the suggested solution does not work, or you are experiencing a problem other than
those listed, contact Jaric Design Customer Service at service@stealth-one.com or
