Job Title: Senior Structural Engineer
Reports to: Branch Manager
Location: Rockhampton

ROLE OBJECTIVE

As a Senior Structural Engineer, the main objective is to successfully produce structural designs and
drawings given a set of architectural drawings. Designs and drawings should aim to meet the satisfaction of
clients and intermediaries. Project coordination heavily comes into play, as well as the need to work closely
with Drafters, other branches and external sources to prepare and finalize the drawings.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensure designs and drawings are accurate, tie in with architectural drawings, and adhere to
Australian Standards.
• Provide advice on design issues related to Australia’s technical guidelines.
• Liaise with architects, contractors and service consultants to achieve uniformity of work.
• Maintain a high level of communication and team-work with Structural Drafters.
• Keep fellow team members and the branch manager informed of work-load and deadlines, to help
with the delegation of work.
• Prepare fee proposals.
• Produce project reports when relevant, written to a professional standard.
• Maintain a record of communication with outside sources, such as e-mails, scans, and letters.
• Attend and participate in meetings as requested.
• Communicate with all parties in a skilled and diligent manner.
• Assist with the training of subordinate engineers.
• Record work hours using the Time Sheet.
• Assist with additional duties as requested.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS

Strong internal relationships are to be maintained with architects, contractors, services consultants, and
fellow team members. External relationships with clients and intermediaries are to be maintained to a
professional standard.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

• Working knowledge of Australian standards and practices, and engineering codes regarding
structural designs and drawings.
• Experience with commercial, retail, medium-rise, or high-rise building projects.
• Experience with preparing engineering reports and fee proposals.
• Creating structural designs to the satisfaction of clients.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

• Excellent time management and project coordination skills in order to predict workloads, and handle
competing deadlines.
• Effective oral and written communication.
• A high level of autonomy and self-efficiency with attention to detail.
• The ability to be a team-player.
• The ability to design in accordance to Australian Standards.
• Intermediate use of general computer programs such as the MS Suite, and Outlook.
• A relevant qualification (eg. Bachelor of [Civil] Engineering).

• CPEng or RPEQ Membership.
• Project management skills or experience.
