Tried and Tested
Investment in extensive acoustic testing offers you
the assurance that comes with actual results rather
than just opinions. Our products deliver exceptional
performance, and we have the results to prove it.
Our products have excelled in some of the most
challenging acoustic applications including
recording studios, concert halls, auditoriums and
theatres.
Substitution can
Affect Performance
CSR Martini’s products are engineered to perform,
therefore the substitution of materials for specified
products detailed in this guide may affect performance.
Acoustic properties vary due to product thickness,
density and fibre characteristics and the risk of
substitution often outweighs any benefit.
3
Why is Fibre Important?
Fibre diameter is significant for acoustic insulation
products. Air trapped between fibres reacts with
sound energy and is converted to heat. The more
fibres per square metre of insulation, the greater
the surface area for absorption, which translates
into superior acoustic performance.
4
Sustainability
CSR Martini is focused on producing Green Tag
environmentally neutral and recyclable products
through sustainable manufacturing processes. Independent environmental assessments
have been completed by Ecospecifier on
As a result, our products: Martini’s range of products and are ideal for
use in Green Star® projects.

of Australia (GBCA) and Green Building Council
• Are manufactured without added chemicals

Introduction to
Building Acoustics
Acoustics is an extremely important
consideration in the design of any building.
Spaces with poor acoustics will have a negative
impact on the enjoyment and wellbeing of their
occupants.
7
How is Sound
Measured?
In order to create acoustically comfortable
20 – 15,000 Hz Hi-fi music
spaces, typically Acoustic Engineers analyse the
frequency ranges of noise sources in and around 30 – 4,000 Hz Piano
the space to ensure the acoustic insulation
solution recommended is suited to the sources 50 – 100 Hz Heavy vehicle engine noise
of noise.
100 – 300 Hz Light vehicle engine noise
Humans can hear frequencies from 20 to 20,000 800 – 2,000 Hz Roadside (tyre) noise
Hz. The following table provides a guide to typical
frequency ranges of selected noise sources. 1,000 – 4,000 Hz Whistling
8
How Performance is
Measured
Flow Resistivity
Acoustic Engineers also measure the acoustic
performance of products used in sound
absorption applications by their resistance to air
flow, known as flow resistivity. This performance
measurement is helpful when comparing
products of the same density and thickness that
have differing fibre characteristics.

Flanking Noise
Consider an office that is adjacent to a meeting
room, with a partition wall and suspended ceiling
construction. Noise between these two rooms can be
heard, as the service void space above the suspended
ceiling provides a pathway for flanking nuisance noise
to travel from one space to an adjoining room.
Product Solutions:

Transmission
Transmission refers to noise that is transferred between
adjoining spaces through the walls and ceilings. This is
particularly of concern in residential units, hotels, aged
care and offices, where activities in one space can disrupt
peaceful enjoyment of a neighbouring unit or area.
Rw Rw + Ctr
Sound transmission loss performance of walls In some applications, the Rw does not account
and floors is described as Rw, which stands for for all noises, especially low frequency bass
weighted sound reduction index. An increase noises generated from home theatre and
of one Rw point is equivalent to a one-decibel hi-fi systems. The Ctr value is used to modify
reduction in noise transmission through the the measured sound insulation performance.

Range
Martini Absorb and Martini Prime provide superior
acoustic performance.
Martini Absorb is specifically designed to provide high Designed for use in high performance plasterboard,
performance sound absorption across a broad range of masonry and aerated concrete composite walls and ceilings
frequencies. It is highly effective at reducing echo in rooms in multi-residential apartments, sole occupancy units (SOU)
and provides even sound absorption across the speech and other developments where low frequency sound
range frequencies and lower bass frequencies. transmission control is required.
