Line protection
With the aim to grant protection efficiently, ABB offers three different product families.

Terminal blocks equipped with voltage peak absorption device

This product is a very cheap solution when a complementary protection is required when the
installation is already protected.

If the existing protection has fine-tuned electronic devices then an additional primary element
like (gas discharger) is enough. On the other hand, when the installation is only equipped with
a primary protection, then a complementary fine-tuned protection is recommended (varistor or
diode).

Surge suppression protection for data network lines

This product family combines several different protection elements offering a complete
protection device granting as an output a wave signal acceptable by the devices to be
protected.

It is mainly applicable for the protection of all type of data network lines.

Fine-tuned protection for feeder networks

This product range is designed for use on low voltage networks in an industrial environment
with the main objective of protecting this network up to 6A max.

Its ideal application is for networks with isolated or impedance grounded neutral configuration.

Diode 1N4007 - 1 A / 1000 V

Modularity

Several arrangement schemes :

- Pass thru diode
- Diodes modules with common on anode
- Diodes modules with common on cathode

IP20 in sealed housing

Free components modules

Wire size : 2.5 mm²

Module equipped with an empty PCB where the user can weld classic electronic components (diodes, resistors, capacitors, etc.).

Module for lamp testing

Wire size : 2.5 mm²

Module equipped with a diode and assembled solder tabs, where the user can assemble electronic resistors for current adaptation purposes

Module diode bridge

Wire size : 2.5 mm² (4 mm² solid wire)

Spacing : 18 mm

Diode bridge having 4 diodes covering a large voltage range from 12 to 240 VAC

Several arrangement schemes :

- pass thru diode
- diode bridged protected against over voltage in both input and output
- diode bridge with status of voltage presence

Generalities
Optimizing an industrial installation requires automation of control which is The alarm sequences cover a vast scope, from industry to public sectors :
usually accompanied by an alarm or supervisor system of certain parameters - petrochemistry,
called "faults". - metallurgy,
- naval construction,
This fault is coming from electrical signal via a field sensor (limit switch, - food industry,
thermostat, threshold relay, etc.). - large stores,
- hospitals etc.
The aims is to attract the attention of the supervising personnel by means of an The majority of the possible logical processings are regrouped within the
illuminated signal and a klaxon, this enabling immediate action to be taken. American standard ISA S18-1 (INSTRUMENT SOCIETY OF AMRICA).
This standard defines the basic functioning of a sequence.

Alarm sequence wiring

A wiring standard has been defined : Access to busbar is possible as bridging

- between plug-in blocks (internal interconnections), is on front face of connecting block.
- between blocks and exterior (external interconnections).
This standard wiring for any type of sequence used is descri-
bed below. Terminal giving access to the
14 busbars of the socket
External connection

ON 1SACDV CONNECTING BLOCK

The 0 volt supply wire is connected to the terminal A (1) of
the socket ; the positive Vdc is connected to terminal C (3)
of the socket.

These 2 polarities are distributed on 2 busbars (busbar 6 for

0 volt, busbar 4 for positive Vdc) by intermediary of bridgings
1-6 and 3-4 on the connecting block.

The wire from the lamp test pushbutton is connected to

terminal D (12) of the socket.

reset pushbutton (according to type of sequence) is connec-

ted to terminal F (14) of the socket.

The bridging 10-14 effects interconnection between F (14)

and busbar 10. Thus:

The modules of the series 20 000 are modular in width and in length.

- 3 widths available
- Lengths in multiples of 2.54 mm .10"
Minimum usage PCB area 10.16 mm .40"
Ip : widths A = 56.2 mm 2.213" PPF1
widths B = 81.6 mm 3.213" PPF2

Possible multiple lengths : Lu = N x 2.54 mm .10"

(N min. = 8 N max. = 100)

For this, we advise 5 stackable spacers. Make up your assembly in order to obtain the size Le (total length of spacers) knowing that :
