INTRODUCTION

The Rapid Office Assessment (ROSA) method has been develop by Michael Sonne, MHK, CK.
ROSA is a picture based posture checklist designed to quantify exposure to risk factors in an
office work environment. A ROSA assessment gives a quick and systematic assessment of
postural risks to a worker. The purpose of ROSA process is to serve as a screening tool to identify
the areas that have the highest priority in large office based organizations. The consistent
utilization of computer in the workplace added to the presence of many hazard factors related
with work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMSD) such as keeping up static sitting stances
for a long time and ungainly stances of the head, neck and upper appendages, prompting
expanded muscle movement in the cervical spine and shoulders. The goal of this examination
was to assess the nearness of hazard factors for WRMSD in office using ROSA. Furthermore,
the ROSA method is apply by an observer, who selected the appropriate score based on the
worker’s posture as well as the time spent in each posture. Based on the result of the examination,
it shown a correlation between discomfort levels and increasing ROSA scores. When the scores
is higher than 5 then it is deemed to be “high risk” and the workstation should be assessed further.
For the method on how to score within ROSA first, the score is given based on the condition given
with some reference from the picture given. After that, calculate the area score from each section
and the score is then is going to be refer on the scoring chart for each section. The combined
score from vertical and horizontal axis on the scoring chart will be compared. The square in which
the scores land or intercept will then be the score. Repeat the step for every section to obtain the
ROSA final score. For this practical, the locations that has been chosen are library and tutorial
room. In both places, there were monitor, mouse, keyboard chair but no phone. So, the purpose
of this practical is to find the area score to obtained the total score to determine whether it in best
condition or not. There were two different posture in both places. The result for the total score will
be slightly different.

CONCLUSION

In this second practical in Industry Safety and Health (ISH), The Rapid Office
Assessment (ROSA) method has been applied to identify the areas that have the highest
priority in large office based organization. Based on observation, the total score for first posture
in library and the second posture obtained the same result which is 4. From this result, it can
be concluded as the postures does not exceed 5 which is it not at high risk. The obtained
result gives the understanding and knowledge to improve or lower the risk in workplaces. Both
postures able to apply in workplace with some adjustable in term of different position or
duration of time to produce less score. So, the obtained result will be the lower risk of posture
from before. In the nutshell, this ROSA method was the simple way to know how the ergonomic
hazard affect us and how to know the unpredictable risk in workplaces that exist.
