INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

The 21st century era requires students to be critical thinker, creative,

innovative, inventive and develop valuable skills that enable them to survive or

sustain the challenges and demands of the global and fierce market. Also, this

period highlights recent engagement of students in their attempt to hone their

potential and skills by enrolling to the course or track offered in the Senior High

School program. Certainly, students in the public high schools are starting to

enhance or develop valuable skills that are required in the 21st century timeline.

However, there are factors that seem to hinder their probable development of

21st century skills. Seemingly, these skills are not yet mastered by most Senior

High School students in the public institutions. Attempts and initiatives by higher

officials are still in the process of implementing the necessary means to meet or

achieve the skills that are expected from students in this technologically-driven

era.

Present time showed that students lack much-needed 21st century skills.

Further, it revealed that students not only need to possess foundational skills,

including languages and math yet they are also expected to be adept at certain

competencies such as problem solving, leadership and character skills (Boston

Consulting Group and World Economic Forum, 2015). According to the

researchers, education technologies can help close the skills gap. To deliver on
