PROJECT SYNOPSIS

TITLE OF THE PROJECT

“ A STUDY ON PERCEPTION OF EMPLOYEES ON CSR WITH


REFERENC TO INDIAN OIL CORPORATION LIMITED ”

INTRODUCTION
Employees’ perceptions on corporate social responsibility (CSR) are usually a
mixture of personal experiences of internal CSR and actions that affect external
stakeholders. Employees are the ones who play a crucial role in advancing CSR
within the organization. Taking part in generating ideas, planning, and
participating in socially responsible programs in the long run result in norms and
values that resonate those practices. With guidance from top management and
support by organizational structures, employees are the makers, as well as keepers,
of a responsible business.

OBJECTIVE
1. To study the employee’s perception about prevailing Corporate Social
Responsibility (CSR) practices by INDIAN OIL CORPORATION
LIMITED (IOCL).

2. To study the level of awareness or knowledge about CSR among employees.

3. To study the various issues and challenges concerning CSR.

4. To study how CSR impacts on employees’ attitude.

5. To study about the social responsibility of employees towards their society.

6. To study the ways in promoting Corporate Social Responsibility in IOCL.

PROBLEM STATEMENT
Employees’ were given less attention concerning CSR because major studies were
focused on customers despite the fact that CSR has fascinated growing
consideration. Employees’ are considered as the vital part of an organization and it
is therefore necessary to to assess the influence of CSR on employees’.
Employees’ are considered to be responsible for bringing up their
organizations’competitive advantage, it is therefore, important to enhance the
understanding concerning by what means the perceived CSR of employees’ is able
to create higher commitment level towards the organization. Thus, it is well said
that this study will focus to assess the relationship between the perception of
employees’ on CSR towards their commitment to the IOCL
/ and the influence on the organizational performance.

LITERATURE REVIEW
Cunha et al. (2015) has exhibited the importance of PsyCap (Psychological
Capital) in their study of CSR, where psycap is a higherorder (core) construct
comprising of four dimensions namely self-efficacy, optimism, hope and
resilience. They stated CSR concept as the extent to which businesses meets their
economic, legal, ethical and discretionary responsibilities placed on them by their
various stakeholders.

Bashir et al. (2012) exhibited their study on the impact of CSR activities on the
employees’. They determined that organizations indulgence in CSR activities
impacts employees attitude positively resulting into enhancing organizational
belongingness and job satisfaction which improves the productivity.

Imran Ali et al. (2010) analyzed the multifaceted influence of CSR on employees’
organizational commitment and organizational performance and they found there
are positive relationships between CSR actions and employees’ organizational
commitment; CSR and organizational performance; employees’ organizational
commitment and organizational performance.
Vivek Wankhade (2014) exhibits his study on CSR spending by the Indian
companies and from their study the author depicts that CSR spending is less than
2% of profit after tax of the Indian companies and also there is no significant
differences in the CSR spending and transparency score of the Public sector
companies and Private sector companies.
Subramanyam (2015) has explored his study in CSR and the practices of Indian
companies and they referred CSR as the set of policies, practices and programs
integrated into the business operations, supply chains and decision-making
processes throughout the organization.
Fatima et al. (2014) has analyzed the impact of rewards and CSR on employees’
motivation and they revealed that there is significant relationships between
extrinsic rewards, external CSR (local communities), external CSR (business
partners) and employee motivation and also significant relationship between
employee motivation and organizational commitment.
Cynthia et al. (2006) has examined the employees’ reactions towards CSR. They
specifically portrays that employees make distinct judgements about their
organizations CSR efforts.
METHODOLOGY

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY:
There are 3 types, they are
1. Explorative
2. Descriptive
3. Experimental

Descriptive methodology will be used in the present study.

Data Sources
Primary Data:
The Primary data will be collected from the respondents by administering a
structured questionnaire and also through observations, interviews & discussion
with Management team.
Secondary Data
Apart from Primary data. The secondary data will be collected through Text books,
records of INDIAN OIL CORPORATION LIMITED, Journals from Library,
Academic Reports, and Internet, used for this study.
Sampling:
Sample Population:
There are total 125 employees working in the organization.
Sample Size: Out of the total population, the sample taken among respondents
from the quality department is 95.
Sampling Area: The research will be conducted at quality department of INDIAN
OIL CORPORATION LIMITED.
Sample Method:
The research will be made by the survey in accordance to the convenience of the
employees. So the sample type is convenience sampling.

TOOLS USED FOR ANALYSIS

Instrument: A structured Questionnaire will be used and the type of questionnaire
will be open ended questions.
Method:
The research will be conducted by using contact methods through Questionnaire.
Interview and Observation: The information will be collected from the employees
of quality department only.
