astronaute primi lično predsjednik Tito, s obzirom da su oni nosili na
Mjesec i poruku predsjednika SFR Jugoslavije. Dolazak astronauta bio je
tempiran sa obilježavanjem 25 godišnjice oslobođenja Beograda, te je
njihovo prisustvo uljepšalo ovaj događaj. Astronauti su uručili Titu tačnu
repliku plakete sa porukom koju su ostavili na Mjesecu, a potom je Broz
odlikovao svakog astronauta pojedinačno Ordenom Jugoslovenske zvezde
sa lentom, najvišim jugoslovenskim odlikovanjem koje se moglo dodjeliti
stranim državljanima koji nisu šefovi država.
Sljedećeg dana astronauti su položili vijenac na spomenik neznanom
junaku na Avali, a zatim su, poslije lova na divlje patke, posjetili restoran
„Vinogradi“ u Grockoj kod Beograda, gdje su uz koncert orkestra „Toše
Elezovića“ i specijalitete ovog kraja, uživali cijelu noć. Pred odlazak iz
Jugoslavije astronauti su izjavili „Na našem putu oko svijeta, Beograd je
zeuzeo, nema sumnje, jedno od istaknutih mjesta. Žao nam je što nismo
mogli duže da se zadržimo i da svim tim ljudima, koji su nas toplo i
neposredno dočekali, stisnemo ruke u znak zahvalnosti za ovakvo
gostoprimstvo, kakvo nam je ovdje ukazano“. Armstrong je između
ostalog izjavio „Odnosimo iz Jugoslavije više nego što smo donijeli“, a
Kolins je naveo da će se on i njegova supruga sigurno vratiti u Jugoslaviju.
