IV. Implementation

A. Introduction –

- To introduce the lesson, bring the students to the carpet.

- Read the book "How Many Teeth?" by Paul Showers.

B. Development –

- "When we grow, we lose teeth and new ones grow in their place. Babies do not have any teeth. They do
not need them when they eat their food."
- "A 1 year old has 6 teeth. Four upper teeth and 2 lower teeth. One year olds start to eat foods so they
need teeth to chew their food."
- "When you get older and start to go to school, you get more teeth. By the time you are in school, you
have 20 teeth."
- "Not everyone will have 20 teeth because you still have teeth that are falling out and growing in. But
you have about 20 teeth in your mouth."
- "You have to make sure you keep brushing your teeth to keep them healthy so they fall out and grow
when they need to.
- "So if babies have no teeth, one year olds have 6 teeth, kids who are in school have 20 teeth, how many
teeth do you think adults have?"
- Write down students answers on the board.
- "The person who is closest to the actual number will get to put a fuzzy into our party jar."
- "Adults have 32 teeth. That is 12 more teeth than you all have."
- Draw a baby, a 1 year old, a school kid and an adult on the board.
- Write the corresponding number of teeth they have next to each picture.
- Go over each picture and the amount of teeth each has.
- Play the video The Adventures of Wiggly Tooth, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rUpUAf6RWs

C. Closure –

- Pass out How Many Teeth Worksheet.

- Have students complete and collect for assessment.

D. Accommodations / Differentiation -

- Instead of drawing on the board for students to refer to, pass each student a cut out of a baby, a 1 year
old, a school student, and an adult to have to reference to.

E. Assessment/Evaluation plan
