Operating Principle
‹ This is an open
p end type
yp machine
‹ Drawing sliver is the input and must be opened to
individual fibre
‹ The formation of yarn is carried out by using
suction to bring the individual fibres into
engagement withy the rotating open end of the
yarn ee.g.
g Perforated drum
‹ Binding--in and imparting strength, are effected by
Binding
continual rotation of yarn in convergent region of
t
two d
drums which
hi h rotate
t t
‹ Yarn formed by the frictional contact of these
drums
‹ This must be then withdrawn and finally wound
on a cross-
cross-wound package
Operating Principle
‹ Yarn fineness is determined by
the
h ratioi off fibre
fib mass feed
f d per
unit time to the withdrawal
speed of yarn Fibres
‹ TPI determined by the
relationship between yarn
revolution and withdrawal speed
‹ The rate at which twist
imparted is much lower than
that which would be expected
from the yarn rotating between Yarn Perforated
two drums
drums;; this attributed due
to the slip and is a complex
detail
‹ The count range is same as
produced by rotor so they are
directly competitors to each
other in market place
Operations by Friction Spinning

The operations to be carried are same as those

required by rotor spinning

‹ Opening of fibre strand

‹ Collecting the fibres into new strand
‹ Imparting strength by twisting
‹ Withdrawing the resulting yarn
‹ Winding to a cross-
cross-wound package
Classification
Feed
‹ Single--sliver feed
Single
‹ Multi--sliver feed (Dref
Multi (Dref--2 and Dref-
Dref-3)
Opening assembly
‹ One opening assembly
‹ Two opening assembly (Dref-
(Dref-3)
Separating of collecting and twisting functions
‹ Collection and friction unit separated
‹ Friction assemblyy also serves as collecting
g device
Number of friction surfaces
‹ One friction surface (Dref-
(Dref-1)
‹ Two friction surface
Classification
Type of friction assembly
‹ Perforated drums
‹ One perforated drum with one smooth drum (blind drum)
‹ Two discs
‹ Di and
Disc d roller
ll iin combination
bi ti
‹ Two cross belts
The Most widely used with following Characteristics:
‹ Singly--sliver feed
Singly
‹ One opening roller
‹ Friction assembly also act as collection device
‹ Two friction surfaces
‹ Two perforated drums or one perforated drum with one blind
drum in combination
Dref--2 Process
Dref
‹ one or more carded sliver fed into the drafting arrangement
‹ Drafted sliver(s) passed to the opening roller to open the
light drafted material into individual fibres
‹ The fibres separated in this way are lifted-
lifted-off the roller by a
blower
b o e mounted

o e opening
ope g roller
o e and
a d form
o a cloud,
c oud,
descending towards two perforated drums
‹ One suction stream per drum draws the fibres into the
convergent
g region
g between the drums.
‹ The open
open--end yarn projects into this zone and also sucked
towards the perforated drums
‹ Since these rotates,
rotates the yarn also rotates in the convergent
region
‹ The newly arriving fibres contact the rotating yarn and are
thereby caught and twisted
twisted--in.
in
‹ It is only necessary to withdraw the yarn continuously to
twist fibres newly arriving in the convergent region into a yarn.
Specification of Dref-
Dref-2 process
‹ Spinning positions/ machine : 6-48

‹ Delivery speed : 280 m/ min

‹ Raw material : Wool,, Bast fibre,, Synthetic

fibre

‹ Count range : Ne 0.18

0.18--5

‹ Form of feed stock : Card sliver

‹ Type of yarn : Normal OE yarn

‹ Yarn characteristics : Woollen

Woollen--spun character,
round, even
‹ Advantages : spinning of waste, elimination
off process stages
‹ Field of end use : Home textiles, carpets,
blankets, recycling, technical
products
Advantages
‹ High
g deliveryy speed
p
‹ Low yarn production cost (about half the ring
spinning)
‹ Elimination of winding
‹ Low end breakage rates
‹ Ring--spun yarn character
Ring
‹ No wrapping fibres
‹ Optically good mass evenness (well suited to
knitted goods)
‹ Better handle than the rotor yarn
‹ Smooth yarn appearance
Disadvantages
‹ Low yarn strength
‹ High tendency to snarl
‹ High number of fibres needed in yarn
cross--section
cross
‹ Difficulty of holding spinning
conditions constant
‹ High air consumptions
‹ Increase of unevenness and
imperfections with increasing speed
